From Vagrancy to Assisting the Needy

My name is Nadia A. McIntosh, founder and CEO of Women Affairs of AMH Inc. As a person who has twice experienced homelessness, I understand what it means to struggle and receive little help. As a result of my past misfortunes, Women Affairs of AMH Inc. was established in 2006 to support homeless women(with or without children) and families. I believe that it is important to help those who need to be helped because you never know what turn your life may take! 

Women Empowerment!

Gatherings are conducted every Sunday at the shelter by Dr. Jeanette Hablullah. Most of the women come traumatized by their experiences, and these sessions establish a sense of purpose and encourages them spiritually and socially. Some of our other services include: 

• Providing sisters,families and their children a safe place to stay for a period of 45 days, in certain situations they can stay for a longer period.
  
• Assisting sisters and families to obtain employment, financial literacy, religious studies, parental skills and health education.  
  
• Providing an onsite Halal food pantry to the shelter clients and the community at large in crisis.  It serves approximately 1000 to 2000 families/women per month.
  

"The Believers, men and women, are protectors one of another: they enjoin what is just, and forbid what is evil: they observe regular prayers, practice regular charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. On them will Allah pour His mercy: for Allah is Exalted in power, Wise. (9:71)"

We Need Your Help!

The prophet (pbuh) encouraged us to stand by our brothers and sisters in times of their need, and in return Allah will assist us in our times of need, so the reward for contributing to this campaign is magnificent! Homelessness can destroy ones concept of life and ultimately ruin ones hope for the future. homelessness can be prevented if we as a people come together and prevent it from happening. With your help, Women Affairs of AMH Inc. can continue helping the homeless community as well as begin building a foundation that can better assist those in need. 

Your funds will benefit:

• The expansion of the franchise by rental of and/or purchasing other buildings to offer shelter services;
• The maintenance of the rent costs, utility bills and operational costs of the properties;
• The payment of resources that clients need(i.e. transportation cards, food, personal items, job placements, education and training, etc).

This Campaign is built around the concept that all that are in need should be granted assistance and as those who are fortunate enough to have the small luxuries. As Muslims, we should always fight for the less fortunate. These three visions and future ones can become a reality just by the act of giving!

"Hi my name is nicole i came to usa on the 20th of May 2010. I am a Trinidadian mother of 3,  but by end of July me and my kids were out on the street. We slept on the street for a week until someone reached out to help us, after that we called the shelter Women Affairs of AMH Inc., and they took us in. I am not a muslim but my daughter is, and my two kids are not muslim to but sister Nadia let us stay. It has been God's blessing to us because we had no place to live . I pray that every thing works out for her and the shelter so some day when i go back to Trinidad, I can tell everybody what the good things the muslim people are doing to help everybody not only me, but all of baltimore she is helping by giving food and clothes also."
