Somalia is an Active Emergency Zone

According to UMR, nearly 5 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. Somalia is one of the poorest and most food insecure nations in the world. Nearly 1 million people are internally displaced due to heavy rainfall and continuous flooding. On top of the environmental changes, constant civil unrest has made building communities and infrastructure in Somalia nearly impossible. This has led to extremely low human development indicators. 

"And the ones who offer food, instead of their own need..."

UMR is providing ground efforts in Mogadishu and the surrounding communities to provide internally displaced persons (IDPs) with food rations while they wait for access to other humanitarian interventions. A food ration includes 25 kg of rice, 25 kg of sugar, 5 L cooking oil, 2 kg of tea leaves, and 5 kg of powdered milk. 

Allah (SWT) says in the Quran in Surah Al-Insan: "And the ones who offer food, instead of their own need, to the needy [...say in their hearts], 'We only feed you for the sake of Allah Almighty, and we ask for nothing in return from you, not even a word of thanks" (76:8-9).
