Help CAIR-WA research & fight bullying of Muslim students 6-12th in Washington state.

This Ramadan we're asking you to support research on Islamophobic bullying in King County and Washington State. With this information, we plan to meet with every single King County District school in the 2018-2019 school year and to produce a report we can use to advocate for our children and foster understanding in schools across our state.

Muslim American students are twice as likely than non-Muslim students to experience bullying. We’ve all heard the stories – hijabs getting pulled, children being called terrorists by their classmates, racist graffiti, schools denying religious accommodations guaranteed by our Constitution – the list goes on.

The problem exists all over Washington State – even in more “progressive” cities like Seattle. So what is CAIR-WA doing?

  1. We’re partnering with Seattle Public Schools to provide educational trainings for teachers and staff on things like Ramadan, Eid, and how educators can support Muslim students in the classroom.
  2. We’re reaching out to local community-based organizations like the Somali Family Safety Task Force to provide free know-your-rights workshops for Muslims students.
  3. Finally, we understand that the problem must be researched and documented so that we may better understand the issues facing our children as well as their scope and impact. To accomplish this, we joined a coalition of local organizations including the Muslim Community & Neighborhood Association, Muslim Association of Puget Sound, and Eastside Refugee and Immigrant Coalition to survey Muslim students 6-12th as part of the Muslim Student Survey Project

Our goal is to continue doing this work and expand it to more rural areas across Washington state where Muslims often face greater isolation and discrimination. But we need your help.

This Ramadan 2018, we ask that you consider our work in supporting Muslim students as part of your zakat. The threats facing out community are many, but we are more. With your support of a one-time $25, $50, $100, $200, or $500 donation, we can continue to fight for a future where all children are safe and respected regardless of their faith.

Will you join us and accept CAIR WA’s #RamadanChallenge2018?
