In Palestine, there is a rise in the number of entrepreneurs, freelancers, and multiple job holders. This shift suggests an increase in demand for co-working spaces. The unavailability of fully-equipped workspaces for individuals to do their work is an ongoing struggle. Freelancers and students cannot find a spot to do their projects, homework, or to hold their meetings. Entrepreneurs – particularly ones who work in newborn startups – lack a space that allows them to share ideas and expertise. This leads them to work in unprofessional and sometimes uncomfortable settings such as restaurants and cafes.

Out of this struggle, uMake was born. uMake is a collaborative, creative space that welcomes entrepreneurs, business professionals, makers, and students to work, meet, learn, and share experiences and expertise. uMake provides access to needed amenities, such as meeting rooms, electronics, and digital equipment, as well as a network of professionals to help its members work towards their goals.

Our Impact - uMake in a Year -

Over the course of a year, uMake has not only become a place for people to work, but we also became an environment that allows cooperation and creativity in the center of Ramallah. Our diverse community allows for entrepreneurs, students, freelancers, and makers to benefit both on the social and professional levels.

We have positioned ourselves as part of the Entrepreneurship ecosystem in Palestine. We have done so through hosting more than 80 events on topics like VR, product management, time management, decision-making, social entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs’ lifestyle. With more than 2000 participants.

Knowledge is essential to growing talent, so we made sure to create courses on the latest concepts and technologies to complete the role of the educational institutions.

Help us become sustainable.

Our community is increasing rapidly,  and so are our needs. The capacity of the current space is not enough to meet the needs of the larger community.  

uMake is very affordable comparing to the alternatives, and we are not willing to increase our prices because we want to keep the space available to everybody. We reached our full capacity, and with the current rates, we can’t sustain. The only solution is to expand the space. We want to rent a new space next to the existing space and renovate it to allow more people to join our community and benefit from the space.

We are also planning to add more facilities to better serve this community such as phone booths, comfy seating area, private booths, a spacious kitchen, stand up desks, meeting rooms, and private offices. The new space and the new services will help us sustain on our own. 

Our role in the ecosystem

We have partnered with many support systems for entrepreneurship in Palestine. We are currently hosting the Founder Institute chapter in Ramallah, the world’s largest pre-seed accelerator. We also host BUILDx social entrepreneurship Series in partnership with BuildPalestine every month to empower social entrepreneurs in Palestine.
