Asalaamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakaatuh

Roshaka village, Yankabala Section, Sanda Taindareen, is situated about 190 miles east of Freetown in Sierra Leone and is currently populated by more than 150 people. It is surrounded by several other small villages of similar size and population.

This area is more than 97% Muslim, yet no Islamic school for Qur'an and Islamic Studies currently exists here.

Children in this region traditionally learnt their deen from the village elders, but as the elders slowly die out, their knowledge of the deen dies along with them and locals are at risk of falling into ignorance and bid'ah.

In March 2018, a project was launched - sponsored by Help Yateem and supervised by Sheikh Abdul Rahman Tejan Bangura; to build a school and madrasa in Roshaka Village.

Land was freely donated by the local community who desperately desire an Islamic school for their children.

Funding from the UK Muslim community has bought some building materials to allow work to begin. Foundations have been laid and the building is currently almost to wall height.

Members from Roshaka and all surrounding villages are involved in the building of the school.

Once completed, and after the initial start-up period, we aim to graduate 200 students a year as hafidh of Qur'an in sha Allah.

We are aiming to complete this project before the heavy rains start to fall in August and September.

Our target for completion of the project, which includes building, initial wages for teaching staff and all furniture, uniforms, books and stationery etc is £20,000
