Ahmed Al-Jumaili Memorial & Family Fund

This memorial fund is organized to help the family of Ahmed Al-Jumaili in their time of loss.

Very early Thursday morning, March 5, 2014, Ahmed Al-Jumaili, 36, stepped out to see snow for the first time, was shot and killed. He leaves behind his wife, Zahraa, who he married just 16 months ago and his loving mother who lives in Iraq.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. just inside the gates of the Walnut Bend Apartments, near Walnut Street and Audelia Road, relatives reported that two men fatally wounded Al-Jumaili in a hail of gunfire as they walked past the family. He later died at Texas Health Presbyterian of Dallas.

About the Fund

In addition to mourning the loss of her loving husband, Zahraa, will face significant financial challenges going forward. This fund was created to help ease some of the burdens and allow Zahraa to focus on healing from the tragic loss of her Ahmed. The family is understandably traumatized and is in need of community support, both emotionally and financially. They are refugees from Iraq and only Mohamed, Zahraa's father, is currently employed.

Remembering Ahmed

A little over one-year ago, Zahraa, made the painful and difficult decision, to leave her husband in Iraq, and come to, what she believed to be a safer place, in the United States to reunite with her family in North Texas. Ahmed, willingly stayed behind, to continue working to save finances, until he could be reunited with his other half. To see your spouse, your loved one go, and you can't go with them, it breaks ones heart.

Ahmed and Zahraa reunited and embraced 3 weeks ago for the first time in over a year.

It is heartbreaking to know that Zahrra won't get to experience life's milestones with her Ahmed. Hard to believe that their time together, as husband and wife, started just 16 months ago, and has now tragically ended so suddenly. Let us, as community, reach out to this family and show love and compassion towards our Zahraa and the Altaie/Al-Jumaili family during this difficult time.

Good Afternoon Compassionate Friends

Yesterday, April 2nd, 2015 marked the completion of the LaunchGood crowd-funding campaign "To Ahmed's Family With Love". Together we were able to raise almost $35,000 for Ahmed's widow Zahraa and the family he leaves behind.

In times of great sorrow such as these it brings great comfort to know that good people all over the world send their love and support in memory of this beautiful life lost.

Donations were made from 13 countries around the world by 652 generous supporters like you!

In the coming week's the donation check will be prepared and presented to the family along with a special gift commissioned in honor of the family. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for all of the generous contributions, prayers and messages of support for the victim and his family.

When we present your amazing gift to the family we will be sure to send you and update with links to the pictures so you can share in the moment.

Case Updates. How is Ahmed's Family Doing?

Hello Compassionate Friends! I thought I would send another brief update about Ahmed Al Jumaili's case and some updates regarding his family here.

You may have already heard that this past Friday the Dallas Police Department made an arrest of the young man suspected of shooting and killing Ahmed Al Jumaili on March 5th. Here is the video to the full press conference announcing this development.

While this does bring some comfort to the family, there is now the concern for their safety. We are working with Compass Women's Alliance, a Dallas-based refugee services organization, that have worked with the family since their arrival to Dallas over 1 year ago, to help relocate the family to a safer neighborhood and one that is not a constant reminder of the violence that took Ahmed's life. We are reaching out to possible investors and residents in a nearby city who may own a home that would allow a safe place to relocate the family to and provide them the opportunity to possibly rent-to-own so they can take next steps in securing their future.

Their safety is of the utmost importance and even more critical now that we have received information directly from Ahmed's family that the friends and family members of the suspected killer have approached members of Ahmed's family and even made attempts to intimidate them because they are upset that the suspected killer was arrested. This has placed an even greater sense of urgency on our efforts to get the family moved and out of harms way.

We ask for your continued prayers and positive energy for Ahmed's family. Thank you for your love and generosity, it is truly moving mountains.

Dear Supporters of the "To Ahmed's Family With Love" Campaign

Your support has been absolutely breathtaking! The contributions to help this family have ALMOST reached $30,000! These generous funds will go a long way to helping Ahmed's dear wife, now young widow, Zahraa, and his family in a multitude of positive ways.

Every little bit is such a blessing and it shows the love of our American community surpasses cultural and religious lines. In the face of tragedy when people rally with such passion to come to the aid of their fellow human, it truly heals the weary hearts of the victims and those helping them during this difficult time.

On behalf of the Al-Jumaili and Altaie families, a big thank you for your kind words of compassion, your notes of love and your contributions. Please continue to share the donation links with friends and family so that we may provide Ahmed's loved ones with the strongest support imaginable in their time of great loss. Thank you :-)
