Ummah Stars is an Islaamic app for kids which teaches them all the aspects of Islaam in one place in a totally engaging, fun, and entertaining way which makes Islaam irresistible to learn.  

What Stage of Development is Ummah Stars up to?

So far the Ummah Stars team (25 people) have invested 18 months of time and over $95,000 to get to the stage where we are now to have an app full of amazing content to share with the Ummah. We now need your help to get it launched, in shaa Allaah. We have worked very hard to get to this stage and most of our efforts have been spent on authoring, editing, graphic design, illustrations, video animation, app development, and project managing. We have 90% of the content completed for our initial launch which we hope to do in the first quarter of 2017.  

The Problem and the Solution

I am Fouzia Usman, mother of 3 children and founder of Ummah Stars.

My son is a hafidh now, Alhamdulillaah, but the journey wasn’t easy. He was the same 6 year old kid who asked me once, why he needs to be a Muslim. He was so interested in everything around him, except Islaam. He felt Islaam was a burden, so learning about Salaah or Arabic and going to weekend Islaamic school was boring to him. There are many kids and parents in the same boat today as we were years ago.

In today's fast paced media world, sadly Muslims are lacking the right form of communication for their children. When computer games and apps are so appealing where are the right resources that appeal to the kids so they learn about Islaam themselves?

When I tried to share the stories from Quraan, the Seerah, and stories of other real heroes of Islaam to my own children, I faced huge challenges because there was no visual factor to the stories. No matter how disciplined our kids are, after a while they get distracted or bored.

I realized there was and still is a huge void for appealing Islaamic content, especially for kids in this digital age.

This is where the idea of the Ummah Stars app was born. Ummah Stars solves this problem by providing exciting visual experiences for kids which will excite them and keep them engaged.

Why does every Muslim household need Ummah Stars?

One of the biggest challenges for Muslims today is making sure that their children have an education that is going to help them in this world as well as the next. It’s nearly impossible, right?  We do our bit and send them to weekend Quraan and Deen classes, but most of the time we find that they really can’t integrate what they learn into real life.  There are so many distractions: TV, computer games, iPad, PlayStation, just to mention a few.

Experience, and our own case studies, have shown that if we completely ban these things from our kids and over-encourage them to practice Islaam, then in most cases the kids rebel when they are old enough to. In short, they don’t develop the love of Islaam and of Allaah, but just do it because they ‘have to’.

So how do we use technology to get kids to love Islaam? Well, it’s not easy of course, and we have to compete with the amazing technology available.  But, if we ‘use’ this technology to engage and entertain our kids, and encourage them with rewards to do good, then, in shaa Allaah, we can plant the seeds and watch their love for Allaah and Islaam grow using the tools they enjoy.
