Help Shifaa Foundation provide clean water & transform communities in Southeast Africa.

We started Shifaa Foundation to try to help people whose lives were shattered by conflict & disaster to build new lives of safety, dignity, & self-reliance. From therapeutic play rooms in Greece to dental hygiene drives in Lebanon, our organization addresses the immediate needs of the most vulnerable people around the world. We are powered by the belief that a better world is possible.

We were inspired to start building a well because a UN publication lists “safe water as the key to global health."  “No other single intervention is more likely to have a significant impact on global poverty than the provision of safe water.”

Malawi is known as the “warm heart of Africa” because of the friendly nature of the people. Malawi is one of the least developed & most impoverished countries in the world (currently ranked #6 by Global Finance Magazine). In a country of 18 million, an estimated 20% of the population lacks access to clean water.  Zam Zam Water just completed their very first water project in Malawi, Africa at Dzaleka Refugee Camp. We want to help them build their second.

Zam Zam water is devoted to playing a vital role in eradicating poverty by providing clean, sustainable water, access to quality education, & more equitable opportunities to villages across the globe. The team at Shifaa Foundation are so excited to be collaborating with Zam Zam Water to build a well.  100% of your donation is going straight to ensuring everyone on the planet has ready access to clean drinking water.

Any funding raised beyond our initial goal will go towards future Shifaa Foundation projects, such as building another well and sponsoring orphans.

Water Well Completed!!!

Hello Everyone,

On behalf of the Shifaa Foundation team, I am so excited to announce that our water well in Nkhotakota, Malawi is complete and currently serving over 445 people each day living in 89 households in the village of Kanazanibwino (13.269974/34.267689). These people have experienced groundbreaking change that will allow them to thrive for generations to come.

I would like to thank each and everyone one of you for donating. This would not have been possible without your generosity and support. At Shifaa Foundation, we strongly believe in the idea "heal to be healed". We all go through tough experiences, but healing (or shifaa) is often found in our efforts to learn & grow from these experiences. Most importantly, acts of love & service, many of which are unseen or unheard, are which transform and heal our hearts. This is why we decided to write on the well "a community effort to heal" (because it truly is).

I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I did! In addition, we are currently crowdfunding for our next project, which is food baskets for Yemen. Every 10 minutes, a child dies in Yemen due to a preventable disease that stems from hunger. Please consider sponsoring a food basket, which will feed a family for one month.

Drilling Complete & Estimated Completion Date!

Salam everyone,

Just wanted to update you! Alhamdulillah, drilling of our well has been completed in Nkhotakota, and it was successful. The next part is constructing and placing (1) the fixtures for the piping to be run underground, (2) the water pump system, and (3) the surrounding concrete basin area to protect the water system and provide an area for villagers to use the water pump. The estimated completion date of the well is the end of the week of November 11th, inshallah. I will be updating you guys again around that time with final pictures. If you donated $100, you should have received your thank you letter in the mail. If you donated, $250+, we sent all the thank you letters and Shifaa Foundation shirts about 3 weeks ago. For our international supporters, it may still be in transit; thank you for your patience. Please let me know if you do not receive them.

Alhamdulillah, our campaign was very successful, and we raised more than what is needed for the well. Therefore, I would like to share where the rest of your donation will be allocated. In November, Shifaa Foundation will be distributing 100+ fleece blankets to areas in and around Los Angeles with high homelessness rate. In December, we will be passing out 250+ sack lunches to those in need. In summer 2019, we will be distributing 100+ backpacks filled with school supplies to different orphanages in Lebanon. Please follow us on Instagram @shifaafoundation for updates about these and future projects. As we like to say, heal and be healed.

Thank you very much,

Location of Well

Salaam everyone,

My name is Dania Itani, and I am the founding president of Shifaa Foundation. I wanted to update you all on the progress of this very successful campaign. We started this organization to address the immediate needs of the most vulnerable people around the world, and your contribution helps us get one step closer.

With our mission guiding our work, the Shifaa team is very humbled to announce that we have established the location of where our water well will be built in Malawi. I connected with Yusuf, the president of Zam Zam Water, and gave our blessing on the direction we wanted to take. We will be building in Nkhotakota, a port town on the eastern part of the country.

There are 0 water wells in walking distance of these 4 villages. This is their current water sources2 getting water from streams and 2 from hand-dug holes.

Our well will be built in one of these villages, and will benefit 100+ households. It's hard to believe that more often than not, the clean water a developing community desperately needs is right underneath them. And it's amazing how a relatively small investment to get to it can make such a dramatic difference in so many lives.

Inshallah, we will keep everyone updated on the timeline of the project, as our coordination and facilitation progresses. We humbly ask to keep the momentum going for the campaign, as we would love to collaborate with Zam Zam to build another well and on their future projects.

Our organization is powered by the belief that a better world is possible. Jazak Allah Khair for all of your continued support and generosity. You truly have made a difference; it means the world to us!
