First-Class Scholars

ALIM has the great blessing of a dynamic faculty who have been with the institute since its inception.  ALIM's Core Scholars: Dr. Sherman Jackson (recently named one of America's influential Muslims in CNN's 25 Influential American Muslims), Dr. Muneer Fareed, and Dr. Ali Sulaiman Ali, along with our Resident Scholar, Ustadh Ubaydullah Evans inform ALIM's programs and curriculum.

ALIM has also been blessed with the opportunity to bring in guest scholars of the highest repute; including, but not limited to: Dr Ingrid Mattson, Dr Umar Faruq Abd-Allah, Imam Omar Suleiman, Imam Zaid Shakir, Dr Hadia Mubarak, Imam Mohamed Magid, and Ustadha Zaynab Ansari.

Why ALIM?

ALIM fills a critical need in Muslim American lives by closing the literacy gaps that stifle and impede the civic, intellectual, and cultural contributions of the community as a collective. According to the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding, “the problems facing Muslim American youth as they navigate the terrains of adolescence are compounded by a dearth of knowledge on key aspects of their religious tradition.”

For nearly 20 years, ALIM has been addressing the need for authentic and relevant religious literacy by providing impactful programming and life-changing experiences to American Muslims. With your financial support, our goal is to reach a greater number of Muslim Americans through our enriching, 2-day weekend retreats and 3-week summer retreats. The goals of these programs, led by some of the most influential Muslim leaders in America, is to foster and cultivate the communal, intellectual, and spiritual growth of Muslim Americans. Our goal is to ensure that more lives are impacted, so the future of Islam in America is vibrant and strong

Amazing Alumni

Many of the movers and shakers of the American Muslim community are graduates of the ALIM program and speak to its transformative impact on their lives.

Organizations such as: Launchgood, El-Hibri Foundation, Fawakih Arabic Institute, ISPU, and Peaceful Families Project (to name a few) were founded or led by ALIM graduates.

Testimonial Above from ALIMni and Adjunct Professor at NYU David Coolidge.

For over 20 years, ALIM has worked towards that mission with its 3-week intensive Summer Program, its Winter Program, and various weekend workshops and seminars.

Here are some highlights of the ALIM Summer Program:

·         Our core instructors are trained classically while also holding Ph.Ds. All are full-time teachers and researchers while continuing to be integral part of their communities.

·         Promotes critical thinking skills grounded within the scholastic methods of the Islamic tradition with an emphasis on developing individual character and spirituality.

·         Intensive Curriculum includes a vast array of critical subjects, including theology, Islamic law, the prophetic biography, prophetic tradition (hadith), Quranic exegesis (tafsir), Islamic history, comparative religion, spiritual purification (tazkiyya) and more.

·         Builds strong communal bonds between Muslim participants through collective activities, including discussion groups, qiyam sessions, fasting together, recreational activities, Friday barbeques and more.

·         Students may ask ANY question. Classroom is considered to be a “Safe Space”.  Cutting-edge issues are always discussed.

Support ALIM

ALIM's strategic growth plan includes working to develop ALIM programming that is specifically geared to focus groups of great impact like: chaplains, activists, artists/entertainers, educators, and youth leaders.

We are striving to re-engage with our alumni (lovingly referred to as ALIMni) so they can continue to grow religiously, so they can network with each other (many of our ALIMni have gone on to be leaders in the community), and so they can find ways to give back to the next generation of ALIM students.

Finally, we are developing a robust delivery mechanism that will allow our content to be easily accessible for those who are unable to physically attend our programs.

Raising a generation of Muslim youth who are fully grounded in the tradition, while critically engaging the current cultural context is vital.  Support our $50k campaign this Dhu al-Hijjah and Impact Lives through ALIM!
