Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah,
I hope this message finds you in the best health and imaan insha’Allah.
Today on my way home from Leyton/Walthamstow, I met a sister who broke my heart.
She is a Muslim mother from Cyprus, currently homeless in Stratford, London. She is not alone - she is caring for her two small children and her elderly mother, all of whom are sleeping in a public park with no shelter, no food, and no safety.
At first, I was cautious. But after speaking with her about our shared deen and hearing her story, it became painfully clear: she is genuine, and she is in desperate need.
She wasn’t asking for money for drugs or anything shady, in fact, she even offered for me to search her belongings to prove she was genuine. All she asked for was food, a safe place to sleep, or something nice for her babies.
I was able to buy her food and pay for a hotel room for the night, just to give her and her family a moment of peace. But as a university student with very limited income, I’m unable to offer her more than that right now. My heart hurts knowing I had to walk away.
This sister is facing not only homelessness, but daily harassment from others on the streets, including men offering her money in exchange for things no woman should be asked for. She is trying to protect her children, her dignity, and her mother — all while begging for basic survival.
She’s not asking for luxuries. She’s asking for a chance to live with dignity, in safety, and to provide warmth, food, and security for her children.
We are her Ummah. We are her sisters. If we don’t come together for her now, then who will?
We are raising funds to help cover:
• Safe accommodation (even temporary housing)
• Food and essentials for her children and elderly mother
• Clothing, hygiene products, and basic necessities
• Long-term support toward stability
No amount is too small. Even £5 or £10 can help make sure this sister doesn’t have to beg, or worse, face another night in fear.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Whoever relieves a believer’s hardship in this world, Allah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Judgment.”
(Muslim)
Let’s be the answer to her du‘a. May Allah reward you immensely for your support, and may He protect all our sisters and their children from harm. Ameen.
Jazakum Allahu Khairan.
