Help Combat Preventable Blindness in West Africa

We are raising funds to fully equip an Ophthalmology Surgical Suite at Accra Newtown Islamic Hospital, the only Muslim hospital in Ghana, serving underserved communities in Accra and Kumasi. This initiative will make a lasting impact by expanding access to critical eye care services and surgical procedures.

The Urgent Need:

Ghana has one of the highest rates of severe glaucoma in the world, and cataracts continue to be a leading cause of preventable blindness. Currently, patients rely on the local military hospital, which offers limited access and capacity.

By equipping a second fully operational surgical suite inside Accra Newtown Islamic Hospital, we will:

• Enable in-house ophthalmic surgeries (cataract, glaucoma, anterior segment).
   
• Reduce costs by up to 40% per procedure by eliminating outsourcing.
   
• Increase access to affordable, high-quality surgical care for the growing population.

The Vision:

The hospital's second operating theater is fully constructed but needs equipment below to start doing Ophthalmology surgeries. This LaunchGood initiative will make the hospital self-sufficient, capable of handling ophthalmic and other surgical cases directly on-site.
