Poverty can make life an endless struggle – but it’s even harder when you’re disabled. There are over 1.7 million people with physical or mental disabilities living in poverty in Malawi.  

Thousands of children drop out of school just to earn enough money to eat, resigning themselves to a life of manual labour. For those with disabilities, manual labour isn’t even an option. 

That was the bleak future that awaited Yusuf – a young boy in Malawi who has limited control over his hands and legs.  

Yusuf knew as well as anyone that there would be no job waiting for him without an education; no way to be earn an income and no way of becoming independent.  

With Charity Right’s school meals, Yusuf’s future has changed forever. 

School meals give Yusuf a chance to attend school and the energy he needs to thrive. The classroom became a sanctuary, fuelled by the energy these meals provided. Through education, a new horizon emerged for Yusuf —a horizon promising a job adapted to his abilities, a chance to contribute, to stand tall despite his disability.
