“Over the years and between that time I was physically, mentally, emotionally and financially abused to the point I was suicidal and almost lost my deen but by the mercy of Allah, I was just about strong enough…”

“She has never been a wife to me, she lies, hides things, twists stories, gives me abuse at times…”

These are just some the accounts of those that approach The Islamic Council of Europe for help and support. Just last month we received over 1,000 calls from those seeking advice.

Case study of Sadia & Tahir:

"Unfortunately, it had been 6 years of me feeling lonely in our marriage, as Tahir was emotionally unavailable and withdrawn. Though he had been a generous, financially responsible father and husband and we have had a lot of good moments together. In the last three years of our marriage, arguments about divorce, talaq, khula had been more and more frequent.

I then filed for divorce at ICE. During our session, the Shaykh made us consider our options and we ended up renewing our commitment at making the marriage work.

I walked into the session with the conviction that I was going to come out as a divorcee-to-be. Yet again Allah has had mercy on me and given me another chance, despite all my shortcomings. I would like to thank all the ICE staff who took part in arranging the mediation session we received. It is pleasing to see a safe and professional platform being provided to the community for dealing with the utmost sensitive issues.

May Allah reward you and bestow much barakah upon the organisation."

Donate towards the ICE Hardship Fund

At the Islamic Council of Europe our main aim is to provide help and support for those that need it the most. This is why we have set up a Hardship Fund, to provide support to those in financial difficulties. Last year alone over £20,000 of service fees were waived to help those in financial hardship.

We need to urgently raise £30,000 before Ramadan so that we can continue helping our brothers and sisters in need - that's just 300 generous people donating £100 each.

Abu Hurairah (ra) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“If anyone relieves a Muslim believer from one of the hardships of this worldly life, Allah will relieve him of one of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection…"

Allah SWT says:

الَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ لَا يُتْبِعُونَ مَا أَنفَقُوا مَنًّا وَلَا أَذًى ۙ لَّهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ 
 "Those who spend their wealth in the Cause of Allah, and do not follow up their gifts with reminders of their generosity or with injury, their reward is with their Lord. On them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve”
[al-Baqarah 2:262]

How can you help?

The number of cases being handled by The Islamic Council of Europe are increasing at such a pace that we need to urgently raise funds towards resources that will help us keep up with the demand. If we don’t raise this then we won’t be able to provide support that families urgently need in order to have better lives.
