WHAT IS IT?

“At The Peak” is the largest annual Islamic Convention that takes place in Hong Kong, it was launched in April 2013. Why is the convention called “At The Peak”? The Peak is one of the landmarks of Hong Kong and the highest point in town. The aim of the convention is to motivate the people of Hong Kong (Muslims and Non-Muslims) and encourage them to reach their own individual peak of success within this world and for the hereafter.

THE CONVENTION AND ITS AIM

The Theme in 2013 was – “Leaving an Impact”.  How can we positively affect other people's lives before we die? What is the importance of leaving a legacy on earth to benefit others before we depart from this world?

We were honored to have the following speakers:

In 2014 the theme was “Muslim ID-Unity”. The intention was to stress the importance of preserving the Islamic identity while living in non-Muslim countries. In addition, the importance of unity between Muslims was also stressed; and many other related subjects. We were honored to have the following speakers:

In 2015, the was “Islam: Today and Tomorrow”. The purpose behind which was to stress upon how Islam is compatible to all times. How to respond to all attacks that Islam is being targeted with, and mainly to stress upon he peaceful teachings of Islam that spread harmony across the oceans. The speakers invited for the 2015 convention were:

The ‘At The Peak’ Convention 2016 revolved around “those who believe”, the theme titled as “O You Who Believe”. It focused on the commandments in the Quran beginning with “O You Who Believe” and hence, covering all the aspects of spiritual and physical aspects of life of a Muslim.

The Theme in 2017 was – “Glad Tidings”.  How Quran honors those who follow the commandments and the path of their Creator, and are patient in the trials with the glad tidings of immense reward in this life and the next. We were honored to have the following speakers:

• Br. Idrees Khamisa (South Africa)
• Ustadh Wahaj Tarin (Australia)

The event is not only about giving lectures and/or talks; instead it is a highly interactive and engaging event that also includes a bazaar area, exhibition area, food corner, kids corner, and more. It is an event that suits Muslims & non-Muslims, an event that aims to motivate people to reach their best and to contribute to society, simply to reach The Peak of everything.

The event attracts people from all age groups alike, be it the kids, youngsters or adults. The conventions days experience a jam packed venue, often requiring extra seating to be arranged.

In addition to people from Hong Kong, People from Taiwan, China and the Philippines also attend this conference.

2018 CONVENTION:

The Theme for this year is “Salvation”. It will take place over two days, namely Saturday April 21^st and Sunday April 22^nd, 2018, and will consist of two full days (from morning to evening). The event will be mainly focused on showing the true teaching of Islam and try to move the focus away of what is media presenting today and what some extreme groups are doing in the name of Islam which has made the situation very distressing for Muslims worldwide particularly for peaceful environments such as Hong Kong, where Islam has been present for more than a century. The aim is to also introduce Islam to a general audience and to provide information about how this centuries old religion teaches peace and harmony to other nations, cultures, and religions from past to present, leading to the future.

“Salvation”, a term highly misinterpreted by Muslims and non-Muslims alike. This conference aims to place the correct concept of salvation in Islam, that is deliverance from sins by believing in Allah alone as the creator, master and sustainer, and submitting to Him and Him alone in all circles of life. It is achieved not by merely believing in the unity of Allah, but obeying His commands and molding one’s life as He wants. This concept needs to be implanted into the minds of the Muslims who often tend to seek “shortcuts”, believing the belief suffices as the key to salvation.

The scholars invited are one of the most capable of handling this theme, therefore, we hope the convention will be highly beneficial, In Shaa Allah.

THE SPEAKERS

Ustadh Majed Mahmoud is one of the leading activists of Da‘wah in his community. With his heart-touching reminders and soft approach, Ustadh Majed makes Islam digestible and beloved to people of all ages.

A Hafidh of Quran, Ustadh Majed is a shining example for students seeking growth and development within Islamic Studies. He’s the first graduate of AlMaghrib Institute to become one of its instructors, performing exceptionally in over 50 seminars including theology, Islamic jurisprudence, and Quranic Sciences. Ustadh Majed traveled around the world giving lectures and completed a TV series with Huda TV & Peace TV.

He is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Jurisprudence & Legal Theory from Al-Madinah International University. He also has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Windsor and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University.

Abdur Raheem McCarthy is an American scholar with Irish roots. The Sheikh accepted Islam in 1994 and from there travelled to Sudan to begin his Islamic Studies. After his education in Sudan, he travelled to Saudi Arabia where he leant various subjects and was then enrolled into the University of Medina. As a lecturer, the Sheikh lectures around the world and can be spotted on TV channels such as Huda TV and Peace TV. Various Dawah Organisations feature Abdur Raheem McCarthy.

Br. Wael Ibrahim is an Islamic speaker, founder & Chairman of Serving Islam Team in Hong Kong. Professional trainer and a certified Master Life Coach, BA Islamic Studies. Wael Ibrahim was born and raised in Alexandria City/Egypt. His only passion was to occupy people’s hearts and minds through his voice and music. After moving to Hong Kong City in early 2002, he was very much influenced by the 'Asian biggest superstar' Leslie Cheung. He worked so hard on the hope of becoming one of the celebrities in Hong Kong. However, after Leslie committed suicide in April 2003, Wael Ibrahim has decided to seek some spiritual growth through education. Though he is holding a diploma in commerce and business administration, he started to seek some religious knowledge and started to seriously practice his faith (ISLAM) and has been inspiring many lives through workshops and lectures.

OUTCOME

We strongly believe that such conventions are critical for the imaan of the Muslims in Hong Kong, who experience a boost after going through 2 days of imaan refreshing lectures. However, due to limited resources, we are confined to make it once a year and maintaining high prices for the tickets to recover the costs. It is normally observed, through the feedback and comments of the people, that they yearn for such scholars to visit Hong Kong. This convention helps Muslims rejuvenate their faith and stay linked to the Muslim community in Hong Kong. Therefore, At The Peak Islamic Convention has become a necessary element of the curriculum of Islamic activities in Hong Kong convincing us to make it a reality every year.
