Don't Forget the Orphans of this Ummah this Ramadan

We might be looking at our parents thinking what life would be like without them. If something was to happen to them or if we as parents ourselves. 

This cause has a particular place in my heart as new mother to my precious daughter Khadijah, I have stayed awake many a night looking at my innocent child wondering what would happen if something were to happen to us.

Alhamdulillah, Allah has kept us safe with loving families. And for many children as schools remain closed, they are able to continue their education online.

However, for many children around the world they have no one to take care of them. They can only dream of a loving parent's hug, or the opportunity to gain an education so that they can stand on their own feet in the future.
Following my trip to Kenya in 2017, I saw first hand how orphans could fall to dangerous paths in order to support themselves. It is our Duty as a ummah to protect and support these little angels. 

This Ramadan, let's remember the orphans around the world and unite to support them.

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Myself and the caretaker of an orphan will be in Paradise like this,” and he held his two fingers together. (Bukhari)

Around the world, Islamic Relief is already supporting thousands of orphaned children affected by war, bereavement, poverty and ill-health, offering them the chance for a better future.

Often, Islamic Relief’s support does not end when the child becomes a young adult; in 2018 several orphans joined Islamic Relief’s Pakistan team as interns, getting a helping hand into the world of work.

In Bangladesh, where orphaned children are more likely to miss out on education, Islamic Relief helped their guardians set up small enterprises in return for them sending children to school. The project helped increase access to basic services, creating a positive cycle of education, wellbeing and opportunity – reflecting the integrated approach that is the hallmark of Islamic Relief’s projects. As a result, 700 families saw their average income increase by over 400 per cent, while all the children regularly attend school.
