We make a life by what we give.

‎إِنَّ الْمُصَّدِّقِينَ وَالْمُصَّدِّقَاتِ وَأَقْرَضُوا اللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا يُضَاعَفُ لَهُمْ وَلَهُمْ أَجْرٌ كَرِيمٌ
Charitable men and charitable women, who have loaned Allah a good loan—it will be multiplied for them, and for them is a generous reward.
(Surah al-Hadid, 18).

And spend [in the way of Allah] from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, “My Lord if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be among the righteous.”  (Surah Al-Munāfiqūn, 10).

The 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗲𝘁 ﷺ said:
“When a person dies, all of his 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 come to an end except in the case of 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: A 𝗦𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗾𝗮𝗵 𝗝𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘆𝗮𝗵 (a 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 that continues to benefit), or knowledge that continues to enlighten, or a 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 that makes Du’a for him.”” [Muslim 1631]

The best charity that is given is while you are alive and becomes an ongoing charity/Sadaqah Jariyah for you.
