The Qāf Initiative is a unique opportunity to be part of history in the UK.

Greensville Trust will be commissioning the creation of a handwritten Qur’an, in the award-winning penmanship of master calligrapher Sidi Mothanna al-Obaidi. 

This Qur’an will be a timeless legacy, housed at Mustafa Mount, a center dedicated to spiritual growth, knowledge, and community development.

Through this initiative, we aim to raise funds by inviting individuals, families, friends and communities to sponsor a Surah throughout the blessed month of Ramadan. 

Your sponsorship will help to raise funds for developing and bringing to light the Muṣṭafā Mount vision.

Each Surah you sponsor contributes to the greater goal of preserving the beauty of the Qur’an in its most authentic form—handwritten with devotion and care.

The Prophet ﷺ placed great importance on the written preservation of the Qur'ān. Follow in the footsteps of those who came before us and answered this call by donating today to be a part of this legacy.

What makes this Mushaf unique?

The Mushaf is the Qur'ān in written form.

Sidi Mothanna will meticulously hand write the entire Qur'ān over the course of three years, in black ink that is made especially for writing Qur'ānic calligraphy. The paper used will be high-quality, acid-free, light yellow muqhar calligraphy paper and each page will be written on one side of paper.

The verses will be written in the Uthmani script. Naskh calligraphy will be used for the main text and the tajweed markings and stop signs will be according to the Medina Mushaf.

Certain pages will be decorated with 23-carat gold, including the opening two pages, the closing prayer section, the sūrah titles, the places of prostration and the section divisions.

This particular Mushaf will contain not only the recitation according to Hafs from ʿAsim, but also margin notes of Shuʿba’s recitation from ʿAsim. This will allow readers to recite in both Hafs and Shuʿba from one Mushaf.

Unlike any other copy of the Mushaf, this copy will also feature Imam al Haddad’s layout of the Qur'ān as well as the dua at the end of the Qur'ān.

The dimensions of the Mushaf will be approximately 55 x 40cm (22 x 16in), with 15 lines per page.

Future Vision

After the production of this Mushaf, the Qāf Initiative aims to:

• Print copies of this Mushaf and make them available to own as well as distributing them throughout the world
• Produce Mushafs in the remaining six variant readings - Nāfiʿ, Ibn Kathīr, Abū ʿAmir, Ibn ʿAmir , Hamza and al-Kasā’ī
• Produce an English translation of the meanings of the Qur'ān
• Create an online learning platform, in which students from around the world can access the different recitations. This will allow students to learn and improve their own recitation, memorise the Qur'ān and connect to teachers of Tajweed
