Let us remember that Dawah is through action. For the past ten years, we have been committed to serving our community by providing 100+ hot halal meals every day to the needy residents of Jersey City, ensuring that no one goes hungry. This is not just an initiative; it is a responsibility, a trust, and a form of worship.

This year, we are expanding our efforts to provide meals for Muslim inmates in three counties—Hudson, Essex, and Bergen—allowing them to experience the mercy and blessings of Ramadan despite their circumstances. Many of these individuals have no access to proper suhoor or iftar, and we want to uplift their spirits and remind them that they are not forgotten.

One of the greatest expenses we currently face is ensuring that each of these locations has an ample supply of dates, so that those fasting have a sunnah-approved way to break their fast and sustain themselves for suhoor. Dates are not only a staple of the Prophet’s (ﷺ) diet but are also a source of essential nutrients and energy—something especially needed for those with limited food options.

The Rewards of Feeding Others

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
“Whoever gives iftar to one who is fasting will have a reward like his, without that detracting from the reward of the fasting person in the slightest.”
— [Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah]

Imagine the multiplied rewards of providing iftar and suhoor to hundreds of fasting individuals every single day, especially in a sacred month where rewards are magnified!

The Prophet (ﷺ) also said:
"The best of you are those who feed others." — [Ahmad]

And he further reminded us:
"Save yourselves from the Fire, even if it is by giving half of a date in charity." — [Bukhari & Muslim]

Even something as small as a single date can be a means of earning Allah’s mercy. No act of charity is too small in the sight of Allah.
