Introduction:

Imagine a place where every Somali parent of a child with disabilities feels supported, educated, and empowered. This vision is at the heart of the Somali Parents Advocacy Center for Education (SPACE). Our mission is to uplift families, advocate for children with disabilities, and create a community where everyone can thrive. To continue our vital work and expand our reach, we need a new office space. This campaign aims to raise funds to secure a permanent home for SPACE.

Mission and Impact:

SPACE is dedicated to supporting parents as they navigate the challenges of raising children with disabilities. Our programs focus on family advocacy, disability advocacy, health literacy, and mental health resources. By providing workshops, educational events, and support groups, we help parents become effective advocates for their children in schools, healthcare settings, and the broader community.

• Family Advocacy Programs: We build resilience in children and their families through support and education.
• Disability Advocacy: We work with schools and healthcare institutions to ensure that children with disabilities receive the support they need.
• Health Literacy Program: We conduct workshops to help English language learners understand and navigate the healthcare system.
• Mental Health Resources: We destigmatize mental illness and promote open conversations about mental health through educational events and seminars.

Community Role:

We are building a movement of parents and family members who understand the symptoms of disabilities, accept therapy methods, and advocate for their children. Our goal is to stop the shaming, shunning, and stigmatization of disabilities in our community. We envision a future where parents are equipped to support their children and create inclusive spaces for everyone.

Why We Need Your Help:

Our current office space is limited and restricts our ability to serve more families. A new, larger office will allow us to expand our programs, host more workshops, and provide a welcoming space for families to gather and support each other. With your help, we can continue to be a beacon of hope and a vital resource for Somali families in our community.

How will the money be used?:

The rent is $2,000/month and we are fundraising for the next year. We need an additional $1,000 for miscellaneous expenses. Thank you!
