Support Clean Water for 500 Lives in Lombok, Indonesia

"Sa'd ibn Ubadah Radhiyallahu 'anhu reported, 'I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, 'O Messenger of Allah, what is the best form of charity?' He replied, 'Giving water (to drink).'" (HR Abu Dawud). This  hadith shows the importance of giving water to others, especially in places where clean water is scarce, as the most important form of charity.

Why is it so expensive?

Our goal is to provide clean water to the poor in rural Indonesia and our focus is on Eastern Indonesia. Our main challenge is the prohibitive cost of the project. The transportation of goods from the city to puncak jeringo village is quite far, and the geographical location is hot and barren.

Why Puncak Jeringo Village?

Pesirengan is a dry and barren area, a remote and underdeveloped village located in Suela District, East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. 

The majority of residents work as farm laborers and raise other people's goats using a profit sharing system.

The majority of Pesiringan residents do not have proper and healthy toilets, they take water through small pipes using used buckets or drums, the condition of communal toilets is very far from adequate with only used cloth walls or tarpaulins, conditions like this result in residents being exposed to several diseases. , such as scabies, diarrhea and worms which are often experienced by children.

To meet their water needs, residents use spring water whose flow is only sufficient to flow through small pipes alternately. In the summer, this area will certainly have difficulty getting clean water.

The majority of the people in Pesirengan lack proper and hygienic public sanitation facilities, and personal toilets are a distant luxury in their homes. The shared sanitation facility reflects a dire situation, with walls constructed from old cloth or tarpaulin, floors made of dirt and rocks, and no protection from the rain and heat. Moreover, the facility lacks proper sewage disposal, allowing dirty water to be directly absorbed into the ground.

Unfortunately, these sanitation facilities are only suitable for urination and bathing. For the crucial need to defecate, residents are compelled to use open areas or fields. These circumstances leave residents with no privacy during restroom use and elevate the risk of contracting diseases like scabies, diarrhea, and Soil Transmitted Helminth that are often experienced by children.

To fulfill their water requirements, the residents rely on springs with a limited flow that can only pass through small pipes. Because of this condition, they have to queue to get water to fulfill their daily necessities, including for toilet needs. During the dry season, this area is even more difficult to access clean water because the water sources that they rely on are also increasingly depleted.

What we will do:

There is a water source at the foot of the mountain that can be utilized by Pesiringan residents, only constrained by the distance is very far, residents must connect the pipe as far as 6 KM.
