Help Us Build a Playground in Rahat – A Safe Place for Children to Play!  

For many years, Eyewitness Palestine has made annual community visits, known as delegations, to the vibrant and lively but under resourced area of Rahat. One unfortunate issue we have consistently come across is that children have no safe space to play outside.   

Instead of playgrounds, we have seen open spaces filled with filth, garbage, and waste. But we have also witnessed the beauty of Rahat, and the potential for the land to be transformed into a safe, joyful, and laughter filled place for the children to play and enjoy themselves. That is why we are launching this campaign:, to make a difference in the lives of the children of Rahat, by constructing a playground where they can play and forget  about the harsh realities of life.  

Where is Rahat and what is it?  

In the Naqab (Negev) desert, lies the Bedouin city of Rahat. Tens of thousands of Bedouin families call it home, making it the largest Bedouin city in the region. Although they are Israeli citizens, the Israeli government has historically displaced Bedouin communities, seized their properties, and severely neglected them, leaving them without access to essential amenities, infrastructure, and public spaces, including safe play areas for children. Despite these challenges, Rahat stands as a place of strong cultural resilience, community, and strength.  

The Plan  

A few years back we set a goal to realize this dream. After many discussions and with the support of community members, and local leaders , we are prepared to implement this project and make the playground a reality.   

Here’s how your donation will help:   

Purchasing the playground equipment – High quality, durable, and fun!   

Clearing and preparing the land – Creating a safe and clean environment for the kids.   

Constructing the playground – This vision will be brought to life with the help of local workers.  

We won't put a single dollar of these funds toward administrative costs, so 100 percent will go directly towards this project. This means that any money you give will go towards creating a space where children can feel safe to play and create happy memories.   

The Importance of this Project 

This playground will bring an immense amount of happiness to the children of Rahat. It will symbolize hope and dignity, and show the community that they are loved. Every child deserves a safe place to play, but many children in Rahat are denied this fundamental right.
