Hundreds of thousands of Afghan refugees live in camps spread across Pakistan's northwest, making up the second-largest refugee population in the world today. 

The situation in these refugee camps is extremely dire. Without proper access to clean water, many refugees have lived with improper sanitation conditions and various waterborne diseases for nearly 20 years. They have been neglected and face overwhelming challenges. 

Paani hopes to change that. With your help, we plan to build water wells for Afghan refugee camps in Pakistan's Swabi District, providing clean water and turning around the lives of 50,000 refugees.

What is the situation in these camps?

To put it simply, Afghan refugees in camps across Pakistan do not have access to clean water. Water-related diseases such as typhoid, dysentery, and diarrhea are reported to be some of the leading causes of death for Afghan refugees, with 22% of all refugee children affected by diarrhea. 

Not only that, but refugees are often heavily restricted from going outside these camps. This makes it very difficult to obtain access to proper sanitation facilities and infrastructure or clean water that may exist outside the camp. 

The situation in Afghan refugee camps is extremely urgent. Although many of these camps were built decades ago with the start of the war in Afghanistan, they have not been maintained and infrastructure has not been built.
