Let's build a farm to provide sustainable food supplies for orphans in Tanzania.

Kijana Kwanza (Young People First) supports orphaned children and young people in Moshi, Tanzania with shelter, education and life skills training. We currently sponsor and feed nearly 150 children and young people costing us £38,000/$50,000 per year.

This includes children like Patrick, a child slave, who was rescued by our Social Worker, Halima, a former street child, whose parents died suddenly from HIV, Karimu, who was raped by his neighbour and ran away from home, and Agatha who became a child bride at just 12 years old.

Children and young people of Kijana Kwanza visiting the new farm.

In 2022, Launchgood donors enabled us to purchase a 7-acre plot on the outskirts of Moshi Town in Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania to develop as a farm.

Our goal: to provide a sustainable source of food for orphaned children and poor families. Imagine never having to fundraise again to buy food for our children!

You can take a tour of the plot here:

The farm has now been fenced, a deep water well has been dug and the perimeter has been planted with nearly 200 fruit trees that will provide bananas, mangoes, avocadoes, pomegranates and jackfruit for decades to come! We have also planted some green leaf vegetables, which are very popular!

The farm is looked after by Idrisa, an inspirational young man, who works incredibly hard, with few tools and minimal resources, to ensure that we achieve our goal.

Idrisa - a true hero!

We now want to expand our farm and purchase livestock to provide a regular source of honey, eggs, meat, milk and fish for our children. This includes chickens, goats and dairy cows.

The funds raised will also be used to construct beehives, chicken coops, goat pens, cow sheds and dig a tilapia pond. Please donate generously for this unique project!

About Kijana Kwanza (Young People First)

Kijana Kwanza is a grassroots charity based in Moshi, Tanzania, empowering children and young people to build a future without poverty.

We directly sponsor over 250 children and young people, most of whom are orphaned, abandoned, or from single-parent families, providing education, vocational training, apprenticeships, and leadership development.

In 2024, we benefited 16,760 Tanzanians through sponsorship, campaigns, events, and microfinance initiatives. We sponsored 250 students, operated across 12 sites, and celebrated 42 new graduates.

In addition to student sponsorship, we offer services like English and computer classes, a Study Café, hardship grants, interest-free loans, and community events to support children, young people, and families in Moshi.

Twenty homeless orphans need your help...

Twenty orphaned boys, aged 6-12 years, were evicted from their home and their possessions discarded on the street. The organisation where they stayed, Halima Orphanage, has closed down. We were forced to act to prevent the children sleeping on the street. We have taken responsibility for these children but need your sadaqah and zakat to help provide them with much-needed essentials, such as food, clothing, healthcare and schooling.
