With permission from Mohamed Said’s family:
Dear Community Members,
We are deeply saddened to announce the tragic loss of a courageous police officer, Mohamed Said, on Sunday, July 21st 2024, while protecting the Melvindale community. Mohamed Said was a respected Melvindale alumni and an exceptional soccer player who was known for his contagious smile and positive outlook on life. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a friend, and a well-respected police officer. At the young age of 26, his untimely death has left a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and colleagues.
To honor his memory and support his grieving family during this incredibly difficult time, we are working to launch a fundraising campaign (with permission from his family) in the form of “Sadaqa Jariya” in Mohamed’s name. Sadaqa Jariya is a form of charity that ensures ongoing benefits, with rewards extending even after the giver's passing. This form of charity is very important to the Muslim community, especially after their death.
The goal is raise enough money (minimum $50,000 or more) to build a mosque in his name. Additional funds will be used to build water wells and a scholarship fund in his name. I met with his family today and they are very grateful and supportive of this fundraising initiative.
Your generous contributions are a way for all of us to express our gratitude for his selfless service and to show solidarity with those he left behind. Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a significant difference and serve as a powerful reminder that our community stands together in times of loss and hardship.
Please SHARE SHARE SHARE so we are able to reach our set goal.

UPDATE JANUARY 2025
The United Humanitarian Foundation (UHF) plans to complete the masjid in honor of Mohamed Said by Fall of 2025. This sacred space will serve as a place for families to pray, study the Quran, and strengthen their sense of community and spiritual connection, a lasting sadaqah jariyah in Mohamed Said’s name for generations to come. Additionally, the project will establish a self-sustaining village featuring 100 homes, a fully operational bakery, and a kitchen. This transformative initiative will provide essential resources and renewed opportunities, offering a safe haven for displaced individuals in the governorate of Hudaydah, Yemen.
