Dolly’s Story

Dr. Gulraiz “Dolly” Ansari was born and raised in Rawalpindi, Pakistan in 1961. As a young child, Dolly was fearless and full of passion. Her pride and joy were taking care of others which led to her career as a Physician in Internal Medicine. She was full of charisma and joy, spending her lifetime spreading this radiant energy to all of those who knew her. Dolly was both water and fire, a calm and gentle soul yet so powerful and strong. A true testament to her inner spirit and core.

Throughout her lifetime, Dolly embodied what it meant to be resilient. While managing her personal struggles and hurdles, she remained steadfast in her faith and held onto hope through all of life’s challenges. As a mother of four, Dolly poured herself and all of her love into her children and grandchildren. She lived for her family and took so much pride in being a mother and grandmother,  title's that she wore proudly. 

In April 2020, our mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. It came as the biggest and most heartbreaking shock of our lives, but like everything else she faced, our mother took the fight head-on. She remained graceful; made friends with all of her nurses and doctors, and remained cheerful through multiple chemotherapy treatments, ER visits, and surgeries. Some of which are the most emotionally and physically challenging treatments that a person can endure. Mama became known for her infectious and radiant energy, she was constantly greeting everyone with a smile on her face, making jokes, and befriending all hospital staff she encountered, from the Valet Staff to the Nurses on the Oncology floor. Everyone who crossed paths with her felt her motherly love and warmth, even on her sickest days and through her weakness, her kindness spoke volumes. Her gentle nature left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

On March 30th, 2022, Mama lost her battle to Ovarian Cancer and was reunited with our Creator. At an early age, she instilled the importance of selflessness and helping others. To continue to honor our late, great, and beautiful mother, we ask that you kindly donate to build Solar Water Centers in her name in Pakistan. Solar Water Centers that will provide clean running water to the homes of 1,600 people, 1,000 livestock, and help supply electricity and power to schools in Pakistan. What better way to continue to build our mother’s legacy? May we all find ways to create our footprints in Dolly’s honor. Thank you for the love and support.

The Paani Project

Featured in the LATimes, Dawn, Geo TV, Parhlo, and USAToday Paani is a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded in 2017 in response to the growing water crisis in Pakistan. Lead by young professionals and university students, Paani is entirely volunteer-based and works to create public health-based impact in Pakistan. They have raised over $1,800,000, built over 4500 wells in rural parts of Pakistan (both in Sindh and in KPK), sent $500,000 in medical equipment to hospitals in Pakistan, and are now working to implement sanitation/hygiene-based curriculum in schools.
