HELP BUILD A SHELTER FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS

Facts:

1. Over 10,000 women sought shelter last year due to domestic violence.

2. These women were turned away because no beds were available.

3. A woman is 70 times more likely to be killed in the few weeks after leaving her domestic partner than any other time in the relationship.

4. Shelters for victims ARE FULL!

5. Women will often stay in abusive relationships because they cannot afford to leave with their children.

6. We need to build a shelter now to protect these women!

OUR MISSION

The goal of the organization is to provide interim housing and skill training so that clients become empowered, independent individuals. My Sister’s Haven’s services are unique in that our female-only clientele will have access to long-duration transitional housing, and a comprehensive empowerment program. We will have an focused based program for sisters that will include Islamic counseling to help us adhere to Sharia. We plan to work with an Imam to help the women traverse through situations that require them to have a wahkil. Philadelphia has a large Muslim community and there are sisters who are away from their families and are in need of Islamic guidance in addition to the other services that My Sister's Haven offers.

My Sister’s Haven will make a significant impact on the Philadelphia community, in both short-term relief, and long-term skill development and empowerment. Our plan is to make sure the women that enter our program are able to transform their lives to take care of their families, and have brighter futures. 

HOW CAN YOU HELP? 

Your donation will be used to purchase and rehab a building with adequate space for women and their children. The need for funding is critical because we already have women who need to transition into a shelter.

We have contacted the Philadelphia Mayor's Office and have outlined our plan for My Sister's Haven. Our program has been developed and now we just need the funds to purchase a building.

Shootings

More women were shot in Philadelphia in 2019 than in any other year since 2011. Since then, about one out of every 12 shootings involved a female victim.

Homicides
Forty-nine women were killed in Philadelphia in 2019, the highest total since at least 2007. We have to do something to protect women in the city and surrounding area.

Domestic Violence

37.7% of Pennsylvania women and 27.5% of Pennsylvania men experience intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner sexual violence and/or intimate partner stalking in their lifetimes.
