Donate your Interest Money today
In Islam, the concept of interest, known as Riba, holds significant weight. It refers to the surplus charged on borrowed money, a practice expressly prohibited in Islamic teachings. Despite efforts to steer clear of it, many inadvertently find themselves entangled in its web.
Understanding Permissibility
Islamic principles unequivocally forbid the dealing with interest, both in giving and receiving. This stems from divine directives that caution against engaging in transactions tainted by Riba. The Holy Qur'an instructs believers to abstain from interest-based dealings, emphasising the importance of righteousness and fairness in financial matters. As stated in
Surah Al-Baqarah (2:275): "Those who devour usury will not stand except as stand one whom the Devil has driven to madness by (his) touch. That is because they say: 'Trade is just like usury,' but Allah hath permitted trade and forbidden usury."
Additionally, the Hadith warns of the pervasive nature of interest: "A time will surely come upon people in which none will remain but that he consumes usury. If he does not consume it, he will be afflicted by its dust." (Sunan Abī Dāwūd 3331)
What to do with interest money?
In light of its impermissibility, what then becomes of interest money that inadvertently accumulates? Islamic teachings offer a solution: directing such funds towards charitable causes. Although there may not be a religious reward associated with this act, it serves as a means of purifying wealth and aiding those in need. As a charity, we adhere to this principle, ensuring that any interest funds received are channelled towards noble causes that benefit society as a whole.
As we navigate the complexities of modern finance, we acknowledge our shortcomings and seek forgiveness from Allah for any inadvertent dealings with interest. Rethink Charity will endeavour to navigate financial matters in accordance with the correct teachings and we ask for our efforts in purifying our wealth through charitable endeavours to be accepted in His sight.

Qurbani - The deed that feeds.
Qurbani, also known as udhiyah, is an act of worship performed during the sacred days of Dhul Hijjah. Every year, millions of Muslims around the world fulfil this religious duty through the sacrifice of animals, such as sheep, goats and cows.
According to hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "There is nothing dearer to Allah during the days of Qurbani than the sacrificing of animals. The sacrificed animal shall come on the Day of Judgement with its horns, hair, and hooves (to be weighed). The sacrifice is accepted by Allah before the blood reaches the ground. Therefore, carry out the sacrifice in full spirit and cheerfulness". (at-Tirmidhi 1493)
This year, you have the opportunity to fulfil your Qurbani obligation with Rethink Charity. Provide much-needed support to those in Syria, Yemen, and Afghanistan.
By performing Qurbani, you not only fulfil a significant religious duty but also gain Allah's pleasure and blessings.
