INTRODUCTION

As-salāmu alaykum. My name is Abdul-Rahmaan from the charity Islamic Help. I have set up this donations page for [Medical Aid & Food in Gaza] on the request of my dear elder brother in Islam, Dr. Nazir Ahmed. In my estimation, he is a individual who tirelessly thinks, aims and puts into practice an action plan for the betterment of the poor, needy, sick, disadvantaged, oppressed and has a particularly strong will to benefit others.

HISTORY

For more than 15 years Islamic Help UK charity has been working in Gaza, Palestine. We have done some big projects in Gaza over the years, we rebuilt the institute of Darul Fadilah (The house of virtue) in Rafah, South Gaza after it was destroyed in the conflict of 2009. Darul Fadilah was a home and a school to 500 Orphans & 30 teachers and featured a Mosque, training centre and community centre. Over the years we have also reconstructed damaged large scale communal water filtration plants and we are committed to continuing our groundbreaking project of taking Palestinian Orphans for Umrah every year. This is the Umrah for Orphans program carried out each year in January and it usually involves taking more the 500 Orphans (who have been sponsored) on the blessed journey via roads that lead to the holy sanctuaries of Makkah & Madinah.

CURRENT SITUATION IN GAZA

Well over 30,000 Palestinians (majority Women & Children) have lost their lives in Gaza since October 2023. Tragically tens of thousands have been seriously injured. With a densely populated area of over approx. 2.5 Million, only 12 of Gaza's 36 hospitals are now partially operational. The shocking reality is there are no safe spaces in Gaza, perhaps you can consider hospitals a less dangerous place than others, a place many could consider as a refuge and a source of relief, which is why we must support hospitals in Gaza.

Before October 7th, more than a thousand trucks used to enter into Gaza on a daily basis through the Rafah boarder via business and trade. Now unfortunately with all the security checks, only 100 trucks per day are allowed entry. There are times when the authorities reduce this number to 60, 40 or even block all trucks from entering on some days. Typically from the 100 trucks, 20 trucks are allocated for business & trade and 80 trucks for humanitarian purposes. This means over the last few weeks and months, there has been a huge backlog of hundreds of trucks containing aid that have been delayed and still await to cross the Rafah boarder. As things stand, the best option with regards to providing food for our brothers, sister & children suffering in Gaza would be, rather than increase the backlog of queues by sending trucks carrying food supplies from Cario to the Rafah crossing, it would be better to have an established contact already in Gaza, which might be more expensive, but would ultimately be quicker and more effective in reaching the people of Gaza with ready made cooked meals.

WHAT WE ARE DOING IN GAZA NOW

Islamic Help in calibration with our exclusive partner [Ideals] who have a wealth of experience sending medics into conflict zones for more than 20 years have been granted special UN permits to enter into Gaza. Many of their medics like Dr. Andrew Ferguson, Dr. Graeme Groom & Dr. Basil Budair have travelled from the UK and have each one of them been visiting hospitals in Gaza now on more than 50 occasions.

We have taken 3 groups of medics into Gaza so far, in December 2023, January 2024, February 2024 and two trips in March 2024. We plan on sending another 10-12 groups this year in-sha'Allah. Each time a group of Medics travel into Gaza to help and assist the hospitals, its normally approx 6-7 medics for 2 weeks at a time. The cost of each deployment covers all logistics, documents, training, flights, travel insurance needed for entering a conflict zone, and all the medical supplies, surgical equipment and medicines they would need. The total cost of each deployment is approx £40,000
