Empowering Future Generations: The Journey of the International Islamia School Otsuka

In the heart of Tokyo, where the urban expanse meets the need for spiritual and educational nurturing, the International Islamia School Otsuka (IISO) began its journey in 2017. Initiated by the Japan Islamic Trust, our mission was clear from the start: to preserve the Islamic identity of our children in Japan while offering them a world-class education. With just six students in our inaugural year, our vision was ambitious, fueled by faith and a deep commitment to community service.

Our story is one of resilience, faith, and community. Tokyo's high cost of living and real estate prices presented a formidable challenge, but our resolve was stronger. In August 2022, with the support of our community, we purchased a school building to serve as a permanent home for IISO. This milestone was achieved not just through donations but also by borrowing from the Muslim community and another Masjid project fund, underscoring our collective effort and shared dream.

The need for our school cannot be overstated. In Japan, a country where Islamic education is scarce, the risk of losing our second generation to a disconnect from their faith and values is real. Stories from parents, like the one who saw a transformation in her children from indifference to embracing Islamic practices with pride, underscore the impact of IISO. Our school offers a beacon of hope, a place where Muslim children can grow in their faith and as global citizens.

IISO is not just an educational institution; it's a community's heart, beating with the aspirations of Muslim families in Japan. We provide an enriching curriculum that marries the international Cambridge curriculum with Islamic studies, ensuring our students succeed both in this life and the hereafter. Our commitment extends beyond academics; about 40% of our students are on scholarships, reflecting our dedication to making quality education accessible to all, regardless of their financial standing.

But our journey is far from over. The financial hurdles to fully claiming our school building remain challenging, with a significant amount still owed. This is where our story reaches out to you, the global ummah, for support. The International Islamia School is part of the Japan Islamic Trust (JIT). JIT is an active religious organization in Japan that has been serving both the Muslim community and Japanese society for decades. JIT is a registered independent, non-profit, community-based organization that strives to create a caring and compassionate society. 
JIT's activities have been recognized by Japanese media as showing the best image of Islam to Japanese society. JIT offers the following:

Services: Halal Certificate, Muslim Certificate, Nihah - Marriage Ceremony, Family Counseling, and Refugee Assistant

Education: International Islamiya School Otsuka (IISO), Arabic Language Classes, Kids & Adults Quran classes, Library, and Regular Islamic Seminars

Volunteering: Homeless Feed, Relief Work, Welfare Fund, Tarbiya Camp, and Global Humanitarian.
