Afghan refugee families need your help!

There are several Afghan refugee families who are already in Washington.  More will be arriving soon through the evacuation and resettlement process, given the devastating crisis in Afghanistan.  Let's help support their new lives here in our state!

Our Campaign

For years, the Muslim Community Resource Center (MCRC) -- which is the services and humanitarian program of the Muslim Association of Puget Sound (MAPS) -- has been working on the ground serving local refugee families, among other social services and humanitarian work (read more here:  www.mapsredmond.org/mcrc). Now, MAPS-MCRC is mobilizing to support the newly arriving Afghan families, in partnership with many other organizations.  These new Afghan families will need to rebuild their lives from scratch in Washington. Your contributions will help provide emergency housing support, food assistance, furniture, household goods, medical and legal help, vocational training and/or other services these families need.

Joint Campaign

This is a joint campaign in partnership with other organizations serving the Afghan refugee population, including Afghan Health Initiative, Salaam Cultural Museum (SCM) Medical Missions, Kits for Peace/Essentials First, Refugee Women's Alliance (ReWA), Afghan-American Cultural Association, Immigrant Women's Community Center, Afghans of Seattle, Viets4Afghans, ICNA Relief, and more. 100% of the funds received through this Emergency Afghan Refugee Fund will be used to support Afghan refugees in WA state (not for any overhead/admin fees or employee costs). 

All donations are tax deductible, as MAPS is a 501(c)(3) organization. 

Our Work

MAPS is the largest Islamic center in the state of Washington, and spends about a third of its budget on social services and humanitarian work benefiting the community at large (regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, age, etc.). Through its advocacy and outreach arm -- the American Muslim Empowerment Network (AMEN), which is led by an Afghan-American woman --- MAPS is directly partnering with DSHS's Office of Refugee & Immigrant Assistance (ORIA) to coordinate the work in WA state to welcome and resettle Afghan arrivals, while collaborating with federal, state, county and city officials on our response to the crisis.  Through this coordination effort, we are working with resettlement agencies and several community-based organizations in WA state.  If you wish to get involved or help the incoming refugees, please fill out the form here:  www.tinyurl.com/WAHelpAfghans.

Some of the funding from this campaign may pay for expenses incurred by resettlement agencies or other service organizations also working with Afghan refugee families, such as IRC, World Relief Seattle, ReWA, etc.  We want to maximize efficiency, avoid duplication of efforts, and do our best to ensure that the help provided to the Afghan refugee population is culturally competent, religiously literate, and language appropriate.
