The genocide that erupted on October 7, 2023, has led to unprecedented devastation in Gaza. Over 15 months of relentless attacks have resulted in a staggering death toll. Official numbers of those who have lost their lives stands at more than 47,000 Palestinians. However, the actual number is significantly higher. This includes thousands of children. The scale of destruction is unparalleled in its history. The healthcare system has completely collapsed and millions of people face catastrophic levels of famine. The latest U.N. damage assessment estimated that  clearing over 50 million tonnes of rubble left after Israel's bombardment could take 21 years and cost up to $1.2 billion.

• More than 111,000 people have been injured since hostilities began, of which more than 70% are women and children
• More than 10,000 reported missing under rubble
• 91% of Palestinians projected to face emergent levels of food insecurity
• 1.9 million Palestinians are internally displaced
• More than 60,000 children require treatment for acute malnutrition
• More than 1 million children in need of immediate psycho-social support
• More than 990,000 cases of acute respiratory infections
• More than 1.3 million in need of emergency shelter support

In light of this ceasefire, Penny Appeal Canada is currently taking steps to expand and offer further support to aid the people of Gaza as they recover from more than 450 days of relentless hostilities. 

Our commitment to Gaza's recovery extends far beyond the cessation of hostilities. This program embodies our stated promise to stand alongside the people of Gaza, supporting their journey of rebuilding and renewal for years to come.
