“Mom, why does the masjid only have reading materials for adults? I want to read too. Where are the children books?”

It struck me, and I was so upset at my own effort and how our community is welcoming the children. 

We were stopping by, at one of the big masjid in Kuala Lumpur. It was a beautiful and clean masjid, well equipped with a reading corner, small study corner, women's changing area, toilets, eating area and kitchen, there was even a small playground, yet there were no reading materials for children as observed by my 6 year old. 

How do the young children spend their quality time reading at our masjids with their friends?

We have friends who own bookstores and publish books, and we have our own schools and madrasahs, yet how do we leave our community masjid void of any self-learning activities and opportunities for our children?

So this Ramadan, we at iLuvQuran, together with our partners, Muhsin Kids and Khadijah Learning Centre vowed that by the end of 2023, we would create children's reading corners in at least 50 masjids in Malaysia.

Our Past Campaigns 

In 2020, through your help in crowdfunding for iLuvQuran's online Quran learning materials campaign, we were able to raise $7,000 and already built an eportal for families and children to learn Quran meaning at online.iluvquran.com. 

Because of your donations and support, Surah Al-Fatihah, Basmalah and Ramadan activity books and materials will forever be FREE on the portal. 

In 2021, supporting Quran teachers was one of our core focuses due to the pressing need to help Quran teachers increase their income and capabilities in the challenging times of the Covid pandemic.

Alhamdulillah through your crowdfunding support, throughout these past two years, we have already trained more than 800 Quran and Islamic school teachers who are living below the poverty line for FREE. 

At the same time, we have also continued to teach at orphanages, for cancer children patients, low income families, revert families, refugee schools and homeless children since 2019, touching more than 500 children with more than 60,000 hours of FREE classes and FREE learning materials. 

And for all of that, we thank you and may Allah bless you even more for enabling us to bring cheer, education and closeness to Allah to our younger generation. 

This year, let's take it a step further, connecting the books and learning materials, the teachers, and our children to our local mosques! Bismillah!

The Budget

Each Masjid will have its own volunteer committee to run programmes and its own children's reading corner. This will cost RM 3000 per masjid and includes: 

1. 30 high quality Islamic books in English and Malay
2. 35 fully illustrated ayah by ayah tafseer booklets of surahs in Juz 'Amma
3. Bookracks
4. Boxes for the books
5. Record books for the mini library
6. Small carpet
7. Small kids sofa
8. Tables and chairs for children to sit and read

Apart from that, the budget also includes the important aspects of: 

1. Delivery of the materials
2. Training of volunteers at the masjid to run early literacy and Islamic programmes for children
3. Visits by the committee to ensure the library and programme is run well and if it needs any assistance
    

This year in 2023, we plan to assist 50 masjids in various locations in Malaysia, working together with local NGOs and mothers to ensure the programme is a success.
