Our Mission: 

FAJR Scientific began as an orthopedic surgical organization, but with the ongoing crisis in Gaza, we have expanded to include all specialties based on the needs of the community. Last year, our mission focused solely on orthopedics, and we successfully completed 153 outpatient orthopaedic surgeries in Gaza in just 5 days.

Who are we? 

The year-long surge of violence has resulted in the tragic loss of more than forty thousand civilian lives and countless injuries in Gaza. FAJR Scientific remains committed to providing crucial medical support to the local staff in Gaza. FAJR Scientific is a non-political, apolitical, and multi-denominational non-profit organization.

With your generous donations, FAJR has sent four major emergency missions to Gaza since the beginning of the war. Our teams have since performed more than 500 life-saving procedures and provided medical care to more than 3000 patients. Details from our four completed missions can be found below:

Our fifth surgical team recently began their mission in Gaza beginning on September 29th. The team is expected to spend four weeks in Gaza, operating alongside local medical staff.

Then in August of 2024, FAJR sent the largest ever medical mission to the West Bank, operating in 3 major hospitals near Ramallah. During this mission, FAJR's team treated more than 2,500 patients and completed 210 surgeries. 13 of those surgeries were ‘bleeding-edge’ cases, which signify procedures that have never been completed in the region, or required a multidisciplinary team for complex cases. More than 25 resident physicians and medical students were trained by FAJR's team, driving our mission to improve academic excellence in surgical care in Palestine.

FAJR also expects to send an emergency delegation to Lebanon in the coming weeks pending approval from regional stakeholders.

One of our goals involves improving surgical outcomes in conflict-zones and low-income countries through academia. FAJR's research team has published a series of papers in leading peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and the Journal of Hospital Infection.

In the aftermath of the recent surge in violence that resulted in the tragic loss of innocent lives and numerous injuries in Gaza, FAJR Scientific remains steadfast in its unwavering commitment to providing crucial medical assistance. FAJR Scientific is a non-political, apolitical, and multi-denominational non-profit organization.

In August of the previous year, we executed the largest-ever medical mission to Gaza. We completed 153 intricate orthopedic surgeries and 80 injections within a remarkable 5-day period. Throughout 2023, our cumulative efforts resulted in over 200 surgeries and 120 injections in Palestine. Our humanitarian initiatives are specifically geared toward addressing surgical orthopedic needs through volunteer missions.

These missions involve not only the dispatch of critical medical supplies but also the deployment of highly skilled surgeons to address complex injuries arising from the ongoing humanitarian crisis. We recently succeeded in sending 26 pallets of medical supplies into North Gaza with urgently needed surgical supplies and medications. Our team has also coordinated a shipment to the south of Gaza which is pending entry through the Kerem Abu Salem crossing.

Each surgery is estimated at $1,000, and your contribution plays a pivotal role in realizing this humanitarian goal. The funds raised will directly contribute to covering all aspects of the surgery, including disposables like gloves for sanitation, surgical implants, anesthesia, and medications, as well as instruments and radiographs. Each donation, regardless of its size, directly supports the expenses associated with the surgeries. Our teams are ready for deployment and eager to work, but we need your help to continue these missions!

Success Story: 

Badria al Quffah, a 70-year-old fighter, underwent life-changing surgery performed by our dedicated and skilled team during the first mission to Gaza. Badria had been battling osteoarthritis for 11 years, gradually reaching a point where she could no longer walk. Alongside this, she faced challenges with diabetes, hypertension, and urinary bladder cancer, impacting her both physically and emotionally. Despite these hurdles, her fervent wish was to walk again and lead a joyous life.

Thanks to FAJR Scientific's commitment to making a positive impact, Badria's dream became a reality. The surgery performed on her was a critical intervention that paved the way for her remarkable recovery. One month post-surgery, the change was incredible. Badria had cast aside her walker and was now walking independently, a testament to her determination and the expertise of our professional team. Our visit aimed to offer support and provide advice on the crucial second phase of her treatment—physiotherapy, enabling her to engage in more activities and fulfill her dream of performing Hajj.

Grateful for the alleviation of her suffering, Badria and her supportive family extended heartfelt thanks to FAJR Scientific. The coverage of surgery costs, a significant factor that had delayed her operation for years, was a source of immense relief. Our overarching goal is to enhance the quality of life for individuals like Badria, who often find themselves on the margins of society, by providing not just medical interventions but also hope and support.
