We are trying our best to help the poor in Bihar and West Bengal, the two states in India with large Muslim populations but mostly are extremely poor and marginalized.
Muslims in Bihar, India, make up about 17% of the total population of the state, or 17.6 million people, most of them economically backward.
Despite being a sizeable minority in the state, the Bihar Caste Survey Report released 2 October 2023 by the state government of Bihar shows that nearly 73 percent of the state’s Muslim population is classified as “backward classes.”
As a minority in India, they are not only marginalized but are often targeted in communal violence.
On March 31, 2023, mobs attacked and burned down mosques in Bihar during the Hindu festival of Ram Navami, and a number of people were also killed and injured in the violence.
And Muslims in West Bengal number 24.7 million, which is 27% of the total population of the state, with more than 90% being poor. We have identified 800 families in dire need of assistance.
Currently, Iltizam Relief is involved in a clean water project in West Bengal. So far, we have built 110 tube wells, which provide clean water for about 1,210 families, which translates into over 10,200 people benefiting from these 110 tube wells. This project is ongoing. The state government of West Bengal is not a coalition partner of the nationalist central government of India, so the Muslims in West Bengal enjoy little freedom to practice their religion. However, they are still being marginalized and neglected by the state or central government. Often, the workers and supporters of the nationalist party in this state try to find reasons to start communal violence targeting Muslims and Christians.

The Plan
Distribute basic food aid to 1,300 poor families in West Bengal with a food package as per below.
Food pack: Contents for each family cost USD $40:
Each pack will consist of able to last up to 6 weeks for a family of about 6-10 persons :
Total cost per food basket: USD $40 x 1,300 families x 2 months
The total cost needed: USD $104,000
Our aim now is to give them some hope that their brothers and sisters in Islam are there to help them in whatever way we can.
Al-Nu’man ibn Bashir reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever." (Source: Ṣaḥeeh al-Bukhari 6011, Ṣaḥeeḥ Muslim 2586)
So here we are again, seeking your support and generous donations for our fellow brothers and sisters in Bihar and West Bengal, India.

West Bengal is one of the northeastern states in India. Muslims in northern India today are being treated with great hostility by the ruling government, and the ruling party cadres, whether at the state level or at the national level. Communal violence, which is very prevalent in northern India, always targets Muslims.
Economically and in education, Muslims have already been marginalized and sidelined for a long time; now they are being systematically targeted to invoke communal violence against the community.
Iltizam Relief Society is currently focused on the Uttar Dinajpur district in West Bengal. 95% of the Muslims here are hardcore poor, and the majority are illiterate.
The district of Uttar Dinajpur has a population of 49% Muslims, with the rest being Hindus and other religions. Most of the people in this district largely depend on agriculture and cattle for their survival and economic livelihood.
However, Muslims are the most backward community in this district. The West Bengal State Assembly has confirmed that 95 percent of the state’s Muslim population has been recognized as "OBC" (Other Backward Class), which is a status given to a group of people who are educationally or socially disadvantaged.
Iltizam Relief Society (formerly known as Al-I’tisam Relief Program Association) is currently running the tubewells project in West Bengal, where we've built 53 tubes well, as of 6 September 2023, with more in the pipeline.
About 98% of the Muslim population in Uttar Dinajpur district relies on hand-pumped tube wells for drinking water, sanitation, washing, and for cattle. Existing tube wells are far from enough to supply water to the growing population.
Iltizam Relief's local partner in Bihar is Bicklang Avam Upekshit Seva Sadan (BAUSS) and in West Bengal is Ar-Raihan Educational Trust.
"You have given us water (tubewells). We also need food! ", said our local partner in West Bengal. This is because his people are extremely poor and neglected by the government.
Our little help will break their hunger and build their spirits as they strive to live. Nothing is sweeter than a helping hand from fellow Muslim brothers, despite our not knowing each other.
Since Ramadan, we have given food to more than 3,250 people in West Bengal. Thank you for your support.

Iltizam Relief Society formerly known as Al-I'tisam Relief Program Association was registered in Malaysia in April 2013. Our headquarters are in the Malaysian state of Selangor.
Since the beginning of our organization, we have been involved in relief causes, including disaster response. At the moment, we are working on projects in 13 countries, including Malaysia, Cambodia, Bangladesh, India (including Kashmir), Nepal, and Pakistan, continuously deliver food aid for the hungry, provide skills training for the underprivileged, build facilities to help the marginalized obtain clean and safe water, build schools, and many other things.
Iltizam Relief is experienced in running food aid programs in 13 countries (the latest will include Pakistan and Turkey). We feed and break the hunger of nearly 16,000 families annually, who are most vulnerable people living in refugee camps (the Rohingyas in Myanmar and Bangladesh), people who are living in war zones and conflict zones (e.g., Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon), and minority Muslims living in slums and remote villages (e.g., Cambodia, India, and Nepal). We also give food to the poor and those who are affected by natural disasters (e.g., Malaysia).

Help Feed 98% Needy in West Bengal This Ramadan
In West Bengal, many poor Muslims only have the opportunity to enjoy a proper iftar meal a few times during Ramadan, thanks to the kindness of generous donors.
Usually, Iltizam Relief provides food baskets to those in need, but this year, we haven't been able to do so yet.

Critical Food Aid Delivers Hope to Vulnerable Muslim Communities
All thanks to Allah, today we distributed food aid to 50 families, totaling over 300 individuals, who are from the vulnerable minority Muslim community of West Bengal.
Key Points:
Beneficiaries: 50 families, including 10 headed by single mothers with orphaned children.
Impact: This aid will prevent hunger for these families, who can currently afford only one meal a day.
Future Plans: We aim to distribute at least 50 food packs each month until winter to continue supporting those in need.

On 23/8/2023, we visited Madya Churakutti Village in Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal, and distributed food baskets to the poor here.
We had an opportunity today to speak with the beneficiaries directly, who are mostly single mothers with orphan children.
We also entertained the kids with sweets.

600 families received food baskets
Alhamdulillah, from 29 June 2023 to 30 June 2023, we distributed food baskets to 600 families in West Bengal in conjunction with Qurbani.
This time, Iltizam gave 2 kg of qurbani meat together with the necessary groceries so that they could cook the meat and enjoy Eid al-Adha with the whole family.
This food basket and qurbani meat have benefited at least 3,000 people from six hundred families.

We are grateful to Allah; with your help, we managed to feed another 100 families this Ramadan. With household family members, that's almost 1,000 people.
The food distributed today will include 25kg of rice, pulses, cooking oil, onions, potatoes, salt, sugar, tea, etc. for 100 families.
Thanks to all donors, another 100 deserving families will have enough rations to cook and eat for suhoor and iftar in Ramadan.
