Plane Crash Has Left Behind Massive Destruction

May 22nd, 2020, was an ordinary hot day in Karachi, Pakistan. As ordinary as overpopulation, covid19, and limited resources could allow a city.

But, it changed into a day to be remembered as one of the darkest in the history of the city.

Around mid-afternoon that day, residents of a colony near the airport -- Model Colony -- noticed a plane's awkward direction. And, before anyone could understand, it came crashing down right into the houses below.

It had crashed in a congested residential locality in Karachi.

Amidst fire, smoke, and rubble, the city went gloomy.

The calamity shook the otherwise resilient citizens to the core.

A plane crash is always devastating. To add to the misfortune, however, is the fact that it crashed right into a residential block. 

There have been more than 110 casualties, and many are critically injured. 

The destruction of the houses is just another one of the miseries.

With Covid19 spreading rapidly and the country already suffering from heartbreaking poverty, this horrific incident has shaken the very roots. 

They need us. All of us. To come forward and help them.

It crashed one minute away from landing. That’s how unpredictable life is!

The flight, PK8303, took off from Lahore, carrying more than 90 passengers who were going home to celebrate Eid. Who could foresee such a tragedy?

Then, there were people peacefully sitting in their homes with their kids when a plane crashed down on their houses, burying some of them alive and burning others. Who could have imagined it?

Life is short and unpredictable. But, losing loved ones so suddenly is catastrophic and mind-numbing. 

At this hour, the least we can do is provide them with food and necessities to make this mourning period easy for them.

The individuals whose houses have been affected are left with no means for sustenance. They need food and other essentials to keep going.

Who are we?

We are a group of individuals - gathered under the name Ek Plate Biryani - set out on a mission to feed the needy individuals of the society. 

As of the previous year alone, we managed to feed over 150,000 individuals.

Also, we always attempt to help in times of crisis. Some of the work we could manage with your help is as below:

• We came across a few areas where water scarcity was threatening lives. Our team helped dig wells in those areas to cope with the water shortage.

• Covid19 called for emergency measures. Lockdowns all over the country had affected the poor the most. We had to work, and work fast. So far, we have fed over 70,000 people during this pandemic alone.

• Women without any relatives and source of income are often left without any support in this cruel society. We have tried to lessen their miseries by opening a shelter house exclusively for women in need. The women live their lives comfortably and safely there.

• In many parts of Sindh, the children of public schools do not have books, proper desks, uniforms, or even access to basic sanitary facilities. We undertook a school to provide the children with these necessities so they can learn better and strive for bright, happy futures.
