The Green Masjid Initiative by the Art & Wilderness Institute aims to support Islamic organizations transition to greener practices in accordance with the Quraan and Sunnah.  

Our goals are:

1. To raise awareness about the importance of protecting our environment in our deen.

2. Provide a framework for transitioning to greener practices in our masajid through our tiered Green Masjid Certification program.

With the support and endorsement of the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California, this Ramadan we have nine organizations on board the Green Masjid Initiative and more joining as we continue to expand our efforts. We are raising funds to help our communities transition toward greener practices such as purchasing the more expensive but environmentally responsible products that are biodegradable, adding recycling bins on site, and other steps to help protect our environment.
