Norwich Muslim Centre 

Norwich is a historic city with rich history and is considered amongst one of the best-preserved medieval cities in the UK. It is also known as city of historical Churches. We are a small and new Muslim community blessed within a location that has both rich history, scenic countryside and a friendly non-muslim community. Approximately, 3% of Norwich’s population are Muslims equating to just over 4000 people.

With the rapid growth of our Muslim community, particularly among the younger generation, there is an urgent need for a dedicated community hub where we can nurture and preserve our Islamic identity. While Norwich already has a few masjids serving the community, they are all struggling with space limitations and limited with services they can offer. We envision a dynamic, welcoming, and inclusive centre that can accommodate our diverse community and meet the pressing need for Islamic education and essential Islamic services.

We are purchasing a former pub in Dereham Road, Norwich located on 1.04 Acre (4200 square metres). It has ample parking spaces and a real potential for further expansion in the future.

Uthman ibn Affan reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise.” (Bukhari and Muslim).

Our Vision and Plan

Our dream is to create a centre that not only provides a space for worship but also empowers the next generation with a strong Islamic identity, promotes interfaith engagement, and tackles misconceptions about Islam and Muslims.

Our proposed Islamic centre will provide essential services for the betterment of our community, including:

1. Prayer facilities for men and alike.

2. Weekend and evening Madrasah.

3. Hifz Classes.

4. Homework Club for students, supporting mainstream education.

5. Recreational facilities for the youth.

6. Further Islamic classes for adult men and women.

7. Islamic Exhibition to educate non-Muslim community about Islam and Muslims.

8. Hosting mainstream school visits.

9. Support hub for new Muslims.

10. Funeral Facilities.

11. Islamic marriage and advice service.

12. Family Counselling.

13. Food bank for those in need.

مَّثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ فِى سَبِيلِ اللهِ كَمَثَلِ حَبَّةٍ أَنۢبَتَتْ سَبْعَ سَنَابِلَ فِى كُلِّ سُنۢبُلَةٍۢ مِّا۟ئَةُ حَبَّةٍۢ ۗ وَٱللهُ يُضَـٰعِفُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ ۗ وَٱللهُ وَٰسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ (سورة البقرة ٢٦١)
The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the Way of Allah, is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to whom He wills. And Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knower. (Al-Baqarah Ayat 261)

We have already secured the location with a 10% deposit, but we need to raise £800,000 to complete the purchase, renovate the building and to deliver the projects and services.
