For over three decades, Jarir Bookstore has quietly and steadfastly answered the call, providing essential Islamic resources to incarcerated individuals across the nation. We've dedicated ourselves to fulfilling requests for books, prayer rugs, kufis, dates, and other vital materials, empowering inmates to deepen their religious practice. Beyond national distribution to correctional institutions, we've forged strong partnerships with Southern California community members and organizations, working tirelessly to address the diverse educational and spiritual needs of Muslim inmates.  

Each month, we receive upwards of 100 heartfelt requests through handwritten letters, digital messages, and phone calls, each representing a yearning for connection and spiritual growth. This Ramadan, we launch a campaign to ensure these requests are met promptly, without delay, allowing inmates to access the resources that align with their unique educational and religious journeys.  

Recognizing the increasing demand and the need for a dedicated, sustainable effort, we established Letters Behind Bars as a separate, registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2021. This crucial step allowed us to solidify our commitment and create a focused platform for this vital work, independent from the bookstore's operations. This status enables us to receive tax-deductible donations, and ensure long-term stability. However, the need consistently outpaces our resources. We humbly ask for your support this Ramadan, knowing that 100% of your generous donation will directly fund the acquisition of discounted or below-market-value items and their shipping. Our dedicated staff operates entirely on a volunteer basis, ensuring every dollar contributes to this vital mission. We fulfill both individual and bulk requests, leaving no plea unanswered.
