We, at the Islamic Society of Roosevelt Island (ISRI) are a small Muslim community living on Roosevelt Island (NY) and our main goal is to make sure we build a strong Muslim community led by our youth. After over a decade, we finally secured a place for rent IN 2018 and are using it to perform daily & Friday Jumaa' prayers, conduct small size classes to learn & memorize the Holy Quran and Arabic, socialize with each other, meet with our youth to discuss their issues and needs and teach them Islamic etiquettes, Feed about 18 needy brothers/sisters living in the Coler Hospital during each Ramadan, celebrate Eid Al-Adha & Eid Al-Fitr. The rent and utilities bills are high as we are charged the same rate as a business, eventhough we are a non-profit religious organization! We have no other source of income other than donations from the community. Also, the space in our Masjid Al-Isra' (564 Main St, Roosevelt Island, NY 10044) is too small, and I think it's time to start looking or a bigger one and for that we need to start collecting funds as much as possible!
