BY GIVING PALESTINIAN FAMILIES OLIVE TREES, YOU CAN HELP THEM TO PROVIDE FOR THEMSELVES

A symbol of joy, peace and happiness, olive trees provide us more than simply food and shade but an entire livelihood.

We depend on trees to live. They give us food, water, oxygen, cleaner air to breathe and much more.

It should come as no surprise, then, that planting trees is considered to be a highly beneficial act of charity in Islam.

So far, generous donors from across the world - the United States, Malaysia, Britain, New Zealand, Germany, Canada, India, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Singapore, Belgium, Spain, UAE, Bangladesh and Ireland - have donated over 490 olive trees through this campaign. Masha Allah! Jazak Allah Khair to all those people who donated.

THIS IS FOR GAZA FAMILIES

This project is not only about planting trees - more importantly it is about helping Gaza families to help themselves.

UK Islamic Mission’s olive tree planting project in Gaza has helped, and continues to help, hundreds of farmers with thousands of tree plantings. These farmers make a living - a sustainable livelihood - based on olive trees to provide for their families.

The products of the trees, the olives and its oil, also directly nourish the health of the Gaza people, at a time when nearly all the people are dependent on food aid from outside. Below you can see what the final nutritious olive oil product looks like.

Your kind donations make the difference between hundreds of farmers in Gaza earning a living and simply having nothing to show for their efforts. An olive tree donation is one of the kindest gifts that you can hope to give because it represents life.

It is no secret that life in Gaza is far from simple, with small luxuries that we take for granted beyond the reach of the people of Gaza, especially Palestinian farmers who operate in less than ideal conditions. This is why UK Islamic Mission’s work is so important and why one of the great charity gifts is the olive tree.

SOME WORDS OF WISDOM FROM ALLAH (SWT) AND THE PROPHET (PBUH) ABOUT OLIVE TREES

“Eat the oil and use it on your hair and skin, for it comes from a blessed tree.” (Al-Tirmidhi)

“Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things.” (Al-Qur’an 24:35)

“He causes to grow for you thereby the crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and from all the fruits. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.” (Al-Qur’an 16:11)

“By the fig and the olive.” (Al-Qur’an 95:1)

“And [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food for those who eat.” (Al-Qur’an, 23:20)

SEVEN FACTS ABOUT GAZA (PALESTINE)

1) The population of Gaza is 1.6 million, with over 50% under 18.

2) 38% of Gazans live in poverty.

3) 26% of the Gazan workforce, including 38% of youths, is unemployed.

4) The average wage declined by over 20% in the past six years.

5) The Gaza crisis has caused 54% of Gazans to be food insecure with 75% depending on foreign aid.

6) Over 90% of the water from the Gaza aquifer is undrinkable.

7) About one-third of the items in the essential drug list are out of stock.
