In response to the ground offensive in Rafah, Rebuilding Alliance has successfully helped its Community-based organizations (CBO) partners and cooking teams to relocate and reopen their kitchens. Rebuilding Alliance, in partnership with the World Food Programme, is currently running 40 kitchens all across Gaza, serving 80,000 meals a day. Despite the closed borders, Rebuilding Alliance has received a new batch of 70 metric tons of food supplies from the WFP, allowing us to continue our cooking operations.

How do we do this?

• Rebuilding Alliance (RA) works in partnership with the World Food Programme — the WFP is tasked with bringing big bags of wheat flour, rice, beans and cans through the border
• RA’s teams buy chicken and vegetables on the open market inside of Gaza

Rebuilding Alliance expanded its hot meals program immediately on October 8th with the help of its long-time Palestinian Non-Governmental Organization partners across Gaza. Initially, the program served 4000 hot meals and it has grown to serve around 80,000-90,000 meals daily. 

Rebuilding Alliance’s hot meals program is unique in several ways.

• For every dollar you donate, the World Food Programme will provide $3 more plus they give food commodities. Rebuilding Alliance buys locally and provides chicken and vegetables as often as possible. 
   
• It is run by local Palestinian NGOs with whom RA enjoys a long and trustworthy relationship. These NGOs respond to the exact needs of the community.
   
• We hire local community members who are responsible for cooking and feeding their neighbors, thereby allowing RA to reach out to more people in various localities.
   
• The program is in complete compliance with all US laws and regulations.

How did the Rebuilding Alliance learn to deliver food even when bombs were falling? 

What we've learned is not something that came easily. In 2014, as 1000 bombs were falling each day, thousands ran for their lives, taking refuge in U.N. schools. The family whom the late Rachel Corrie sought to protect in Gaza asked us to arrange food deliveries and cleaning supplies when we thought it near impossible. Store owners accepted a promissory note from Rebuilding Alliance and the Rachel Corrie Foundation. Volunteers joined in to pick up the food, bringing it to the 2000 people taking refuge in each of the  UN schools. Later we raised all the funds needed and paid back the store owners.
