‘The Gift A Smile Project’ 

This project was initiated by the Muslim youth to provide kids with a small gift that may give them hope and support during times of hardship. It allows the youth to fundraise, plan and initiate acts of kindness for the community in times of need.

We are aiming at children of various religious backgrounds under the age of 15 that are going through hardship, whether it were a serious illness, abuse, an orphan or a refugee. ‘Gift A Smile’ is based on giving selflessly to help the child feel supported, loved and most importantly help plant a smile on their faces. We have all been through times of hardship, reflecting back on our own experiences imagine the difference it would have made knowing you had an entire community’s support, love and respect.

The Beneficiaries

We will be going to the local children's hospital in Auckland, New Zealand called "Starship Hospital". There are about 200 kids in this facility and we aim to get presents for each and every one of them. As well as this, we will be going to the refugee camp here in Auckland, which has refugees from all over the globe and we want them to feel at home here in New Zealand and give them some hope for a brighter future in this country.

Our Past Activities

Previously Al Hikmah has focused on bringing the youth together through interactive activities. We are now hoping to broaden our aim by positively contributing back to the society we live in, hence starting ‘ The Gift A Smile Project ’.

We have done camps and day trips for the youth in New Zealand before but this year we wanted to broaden our horizons and start helping the children who need it the most. This will be our first time doing a charity based event but we have experience from other events such as camps to help us through this project.

We seek to share the love and joy a child feels during Eid Al Fitr; which celebrates the end of fasting Ramadan. You could see it as our ‘Christmas’, a time of joy and love, that brings families together. We plan to personally purchase, wrap and distribute all gifts just after Eid Al Fitr to the children around Auckland.

This project will not be successful without the help of our community. By donating to this cause you are making a massive difference to a little soul that has seen the worst life can give. An hour of joy may be the little push they need to keep fighting.

A little about Al Hikmah

Al Hikmah Trust is a Muslim Youth organisation based in Auckland, New Zealand. It aims to assist young Muslim males and females in attaining a strong connection to their community, Islamic faith and New Zealand identity. Thereby contributing positively to the society in New Zealand.

The leaders of the "Gift a Smile" campaign are Ali Youssef and Yousef Raslan from Al Hikmah Boys, also Basma Hassan and Marwa Saad from Al Hikmah Girls. We have come together to create this campaign as we have the same vision and motives to help those in need and positively spread the image of Islam.
