Give Fresh Qurbani Meat and Share Your Blessings in Malaysia

For as little as USD 157 for a portion or USD 1,097 for the whole cow, you may give fresh meat to the poor, who rarely taste meat, let alone fresh meat.
Allah says in the Quran: “Their flesh and their food reach not Allah, but the devotion from you reacheth Him. Thus, have We made them subject unto you that ye may magnify Allah that He hath guided you. And give good tidings (O Muhammad) to the good”. (Surah Al Hajj 22:37)
Every year, Iltizam Relief Society organizes Qurbani program in places where people are not only poor but very rarely taste meat (especially beef or mutton), let alone fresh meat in their daily meal. Qurbani is the time when we give what they have been missing throughout the year.
For Malaysia, this time we are organizing the Qurbani program and targeting the rubber tappers in the northern states of Malaysia and the poor remote islands off the coast of the state of Sabah (east Malaysia).
This is because rubber tappers are facing multiple challenges. Their income depends very much on rubber prices and the weather. Both are not being very friendly to them.
With the current price of RM2.70 per kg, the rubber tappers earn a meagre RM1.35 for each kg of scrap rubber they produce. In a month, total earnings were merely RM400. With rising inflation, this put the family in a quandry.
Rains, on the other hand, allow them to go out for a rubber-tapping handful of days only for the month.
The other target group for our Qurbani this year will be the poor living on remote islands off the coast of Sabah. Last year and this year, we have completed many water well projects on this island; the most recent was on Nunuyan Laut Island, where we built two water wells. During our visit here, we found the people on this island are hard-core poor, and they hope we can also do a Qurbani program on this island.
As a fishing community, their protein comes mostly from the fisheries; hence, they very rarely taste any fresh bovine meat. We feel so touched, despite the fact that cows are quite cheaper over there compared to the rest of Malaysia, yet hardly anyone does Qurbani here. To transport cows mainly to this island may incur some cost, but we have studied this and it is possible to do it.
Zulhijah month is another blessed month in Islam. Other than the Eid al-Adha celebration and performing the Hajj pilgrimage, we are required to sacrifice animals and give fresh meat to the deserving in this blessed month.

Sadaqah Qurban
The intention of Sadaqah Qurban is to give opportunity to those who cannot afford to participate in the qurbani, not even a portion of a cow. The collected sum will be used to slaughter a cow, and the meat will be distributed to the poor on the day of Eid al-Adha. Although it will not qualify for qurbani meat, our intention to give fresh meat to the poor will be achieved regardless.

FIRST TIME QURBANI WAS HELD HERE!
Alhamdulillah, on 29 June 29, the day Malaysia celebrated Eid al-Adha, we sacrificed a total of 10 cows and distributed the fresh meat to the poor living in remote areas.
This time, we also distributed food baskets along with fresh qurbani meat. This is to enable the poor to cook the meat and enjoy Eid with their family.
This year, we did qurbani in two locations: in the state of Sabah, located on Borneo Island. And the other is in the state of Kedah, peninsular Malaysia (west Malaysia).
Six cows were sacrificed in Pitas, Sabah. And another four cows were sacrificed in Kedah. A total of 372 poor families whose livelihoods mainly depended on rubber tapping and fishing.
The fresh qurbani meats and food baskets were distributed in three villages and to a nearby village-island. All are in the district of Pitas, Sabah, Malaysia. And we distributed the same to another two villages in Kedah.
And these villages are experiencing Qurbani after a very long gap. Yes, they are so grateful; because it has been so long, they never had a chance to sacrifice animals on Eid al-Adha, and they also never had this many cows before in their village history.
This is Allah's blessing. Allah made it easy for us through your support.
