In honor of Abdul-Rahman Peter Kassig & his family, let's follow in his footsteps and show there's still hope in Syria!

"Good Will Prevail"

On Sunday, November 16 Abdul-Rahman Peter Kassig - an idealistic, loving young American doing aid work in Syria - was brutally murdered by ISIS. Later that evening, Abdul-Rahman Peter's parents, Paula and Ed Kassig, spoke at a church in Indianapolis, the city their son grew up in: "Our hearts are battered, but they will mend. The world is broken, but it will be healed in the end. And good will prevail as the one God of many names will prevail.

In honor of Abdul-Rahman Peter, his parents, and his work, we are asking and challenging ourselves to help good prevail in 3 simple ways:
  1) Contribute - Donate something on this LaunchGood campaign to go toward supporting the millions of suffering Syrian refugees as Abdul-Rahman Peter himself wanted. Our platform is waiving all fees to maximize donation support.
  2) Write - Send Abdul-Rahman Peter's parents a letter sharing condolences and prayers, addressed to: The Kassig family, c/o Epworth UMC, 6450 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis IN 46220 (Note: this is not their home address but the address where they are receiving letters)
  3) Share - Share this campaign with your friends & family and ask them to be part of helping the good prevail.

Abdul-Rahman Peter Kassig: A Life of Meaning & Purpose

Abdul-Rahman Peter Kassig grew up in Indiana but felt a higher calling than those around him, as though he was meant to live a life of purpose. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Army but was honorably discharged after a short tour in Iraq for medical reasons. He studied political science at Butler University, but wanted to return to the Middle East to do aid work. He received emergency medical training and went back, this time to Syria to serve those in need.

Abdul-Rahman Peter later formed a nonprofit, Special Emergency Response and Assistance, to deliver humanitarian aid to Syrians affected by the fighting there. In a 2012 interview with CNN, he shared his motivation for his work: "I am not a doctor. I am not a nurse, but I am a guy who can clean up bandages, help clean up patients, swap out bandages, help run IVs, make people's quality of life a little bit better. This is something for me that has meaning, that has purpose.

Abdul-Rahman Peter knew the risk in his work, but it couldn't deter him - the stakes were just too high for him to quit. "There's this impression, this belief that there is no hope. That's when it's more important than ever, against all odds, to try to do something." In a letter to his parents, he wrote: "If I do die, I figure that at least you and I can seek refuge and comfort in knowing that I went out as a result of trying to alleviate suffering and helping those in need."

An Everlasting Charity

Before Abdul-Rahman Peter had been captured by ISIS, he had begun taking steps toward becoming a Muslim, and made the full commitment amazingly while imprisoned by ISIS. That didn't save him from their wrath, but it did help him find peace and comfort in his heart, and God-willing His Lord's pleasure.

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, taught, "When a man dies, his good deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, and righteous offspring who will pray for him." (Muslim).

Let's continue to bring blessings to Abdul-Rahman Peter by supporting the people he gave his life to support himself. Not only will it count as charity for ourselves but hopefully Abdul-Rahman Peter as well. It's also a statement against ISIS and those who think they can bully others around. Abdul-Rahman Peter represented the best of Islam, and this is our opportunity to show his loved ones and the world that we stand behind Abdul-Rahman Peter and his embodiment of the selfless sacrifice and concern for the needy that's so core to the teachings of Islam.

SAMS Foundation - Syrian American Medical Society

According to the wishes of Mr. & Mrs. Kassig, all funds raised will be sent to the SAMS (Syrian American Medical Society) Foundation. The SAMS Foundation is one of the most trusted organizations delivering medical and humanitarian aid inside of Syria and to Syrian refugees. The Syrian American Medical Society represents hundreds of medical professionals of Syrian descent, and is a non-profit, non-political humanitarian organization that works on the front lines of crisis relief in Syria and neighboring countries to alleviate suffering and save lives. Through its strong network within the United States and in Syria, SAMS organizes medical missions to support Syrians, provides professional and educational trainings to Syrian physicians, and delivers medicine and supplies to local hospitals and vulnerable families in Syria. LaunchGood

LaunchGood is a crowdfunding site that was started as a way to support incredible Muslims doing great work across the world, just like Abdul-Rahman Peter Kassig. Every once in a while we see a person or cause that catches our heart, and we decide to do what we can to support him or her. To avoid mixed intentions, we are waving our normal 5% administration fee and donating our time and efforts to show Peter's family just how moved we were with their son's story. It's the least we can do.
