Our Mission

The Halal Meat Monitoring Initiative (HMMI) strives to make halal eating accessible for Muslims across North America. Under the supervision of respected scholars at Miftaah Institute, we verify the halal status of restaurant meat suppliers to ensure our community can make informed dining choices.

Religious Significance

The Prophet ﷺ emphasized the importance of consuming what is pure and halal. As narrated by Abu Hurayra (Allah be pleased with him):

"Allah the Almighty is pure and accepts only that which is pure. Allah has commanded the faithful to do that which he commanded the Messengers, and the Almighty has said: 'O Messengers! Eat of the pure things and do right'..." (Sahih Muslim)

What We Do

Every quarter, our dedicated volunteers:

• Research and verify restaurant meat sources
• Investigate slaughterhouses and butcher shops for compliance with Islamic requirements
• Share our findings transparently via social media
• Highlight restaurants using hand-slaughtered (zabiha) halal meat - the highest standard
