This campaign is to support 10 needy undergraduates (4-year program) in Cambodia. The scholarship program will provide opportunities for them to advance in their studies that will make a significant impact to uplift their families and communities out of poverty. 

There are many testimonials that a university degree could drastically improve the lives of the students, their families, and the community at large. A graduate could often find a decent job to lead an independent and respectful life, support their family members and raise awareness on the significance of education. 

Yusof Muhammad (above) is one of the students seeking financial help from Emaan Foundation Cambodia (EFC)*.  He comes from a poor family and has 7 siblings living in Dungha Village, Tbong Khmom Province. His father is a construction worker and his mother is a housewife, with income just enough for their basic provisions. Although he is sad to see his family's current state, he is very determined to bring them out of the cycle of poverty through excelling in education.

To pay his school fees, he works part-time at one of EFC's education centres (Singapore Centre for Education) which however takes a lot of his time away from studying. Getting a scholarship will enable him to focus better on his studies and boost his chances of academic success.

According to the Higher Education Improvement Project (HEIP) report (2017), the graduate enrolment rates (GER) of Cambodian students is 10.86%. The enrolment rate of Muslim students is estimated to be less than 5%. The main reason for the low enrolment is due to poverty of the large majority of Muslim students who cannot afford the university tuition fees, study materials and high cost of living in the city. 



In the last 5 years, with support from donors and friends, EFC has been providing scholarships to Muslim students from poor families across the country. 



The scholarship award includes tuition fees, hostel accommodation and daily breakfast. In addition, EFC provides the students with free personal and academic development programs and complimentary use of hostel facilities like library, study room, training room, multi-media room, prayer room, recreation and motorcycle parking areas.






The sponsored students are highly encouraged to give back to the community during and after their graduation through voluntary community work as part of building their character and social capital. They also regularly volunteer in service-learning projects by overseas groups from Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Australia that give them the opportunities to develop their communication and team-building skills as well as form new social networks.
