It is with great sorrow that we inform you of a tragedy that hit our community at the Islamic Center of Tacoma. On the evening of October 11th, our masjid was the target of an arson attack. A person was seen throwing a Molotov cocktail at the masjid just before Ishaa prayer. The fire ripped through the masjid, and alhamdullilah people were able to escape unscathed. The fire department arrived and quickly dosed the fire. Unfortunately, in extinguishing the flames, the water resulted in a lot of damage as it seeped into the foundation. The damage from the flames, smoke, and water has left our home irreparable and our community grieves for our loss.
We have since brought someone to look at the damages and we were informed that the damages were so severe that it would cost just as much to rebuild the Masjid. The insurance company said that only about $500,000 it could be granted which is not enough to rebuild the Masjid.
We are calling on our community to come together and stand with us at this very difficult time.
Our Beloved Prophet SAAWS once said that “ The parable of the believers in the sympathy and mercy is that of one body, if one part of it is afflicted with a disease then the rest of the body begins to aid it with causing deprivation of sleep and fever”. Please help us rebuild our Masjid by contributing with a donation and sending this message as far and wide as possible. We want this to be a message to the person who did this that we are a strong and loving community and that your act of violence will never overcome our love for one another. We hope to rebuild stronger, together.

Unfortunately, the damage has completely rendered the center unusable and our community grieves for our loss. We hope through this campaign, that we can raise enough funds to rebuild. I am reaching out to you to share a very unfortunate incident that took place yesterday evening in Tacoma, WA. The Islamic Center of Tacoma was set on fire. Eyewitness reported that an individual was seen throwing a Molotov cocktail at the property. Thankfully the local fire department responded swiftly and saved much of the structure.This campaign has been started to help the masjid renovate, since the building has now been rendered unsafe to occupy.
