Nestled in Micro, NC, the Alsalam Mosque stands as more than just a local house of worship – it serves as a beacon of hospitality and comfort along America's rural highways. The mosque keeps its doors open to traveling Muslim truck drivers who find in this sacred space a welcomed break from their long journeys, a place to pray, rest, and reconnect with their faith.

The mosque's community kitchen has become a source of blessing, regularly providing meals to both locals and travelers, embodying the Islamic tradition of feeding others. Whether offering a warm meal for a weary traveler or food assistance for local families, Alsalam Mosque continues to nourish both body and soul.

However, this beloved mosque now faces critical structural challenges that limit its ability to serve the growing community and present Islam in the dignified manner it deserves. While the community's spirit of hospitality remains strong, the facilities need significant improvements to match the quality of service the mosque aspires to provide. The vision for Alsalam Mosque is to create a clean, well-maintained spiritual haven that truly reflects the beauty of Islamic faith.

The Challenge

The mosque requires urgent repairs and essential improvements to continue serving the community safely and effectively:

1. Critical Foundation Repairs
   • The mosque's foundation has developed serious structural issues
   • Professional assessment has identified compromised areas requiring immediate attention
   • These repairs are essential for the safety and longevity of our mosque
2. Proper Ablution (Wudu) Facilities
   • Current facilities are inadequate for our growing community
   • Need to create accessible and clean wudu areas for men and women
   • Improvements will ensure proper ritual purification facilities for daily prayers
3. Bathroom Renovations
   • Existing bathrooms require significant upgrades
   • Plans include separate facilities for brothers and sisters
   • ADA-compliant designs to accommodate all community members
4. Imam's Quarters
   • Addition of modest living quarters for our imam
   • Will allow the imam to better serve the community
   • Enables extended prayer times and educational programs
