Our dear brother, Umar Sallah, was in a terrible car accident on June 12, 2021. He has sustained severe neck and spinal cord injuries that have resulted in him being paralyzed from the neck down at the young age of 19. After several surgeries and a lengthy hospital stay, he is now at home.
Unfortunately, their current dwelling is not suitable for his needs (i.e., accessible bathroom, bedroom on the first floor, space, and privacy for Umar, etc.). Umar needs 24 hour care. His mother (Sr. Bintou) had to take time off from work to take care of him and provide round the clock care. Umar will still have to undergo surgeries and months, possibly years, of rehab in hopes of regaining some function of his arms and legs.
Donations collected will be directly deposited from this fund into an account set up by the Neighborly Assistance Society (An-NAS) in collaboration with the Muslim American Society (MAS-UC) for Umar's family to purchase a house that would accommodate Umar's needs. Excess funds will be used to support Umar's medical and specialized education needs.
Abu Hurairah (RAA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “If anyone relieves a Muslim believer from one of the hardships of this worldly life, Allah will relieve him of one of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection. If anyone makes it easy for the one who is indebted to him (while finding it difficult to repay), Allah will make it easy for him in this worldly life and the Hereafter, and if anyone conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults in this world and the Hereafter. Allah helps His slave as long as he helps his brother.” Related by Muslim.
