OUR MISSION

We are trying to complete the re-building of our Clara Muhammad School in Corona-Queens, NY. We Want to get back to educating all of our students, like Moufatih. We need your help because during the middle of the night a few years ago, an electrical fire started and we lost everything. We are asking you to donate to this very worthy cause.

THE FIRE DESTROYED EVERYTHING

We began reconstruction of our historic Clara Muhammad School in Corona-Queens, NY after the fire, but now we have exhausted all of our monies before completing its re-building. The City of New York required additional equipment that we did not know was needed when we began. Please help us rebuild the school, purchase classroom and office equipment, furniture, technology and computers.

Your donation will also assist in purchasing textbooks and other teaching and educational materials for students and teachers. Muslim and non-Muslim students from low-income and working-class families who live in the Queens community, inquire about our school's re-opening, as do other students from urban backgrounds who want to escape the poor academic performing public schools. The school's reopening will, again, assist in re-socializing students and their families from other countries into a moderate, well-balanced environment and most of all, provide quality education to all of our students.

We have students from all over the world who come daily from all boroughs of New York City. Some of the students from Manhattan have been students whose parents were working in their country's United Nations missions. Please donate to this cause!

OUR UNIQUE HISTORY

Sister Clara Muhammad, founder of the schools, began homeschooling children for our association in 1931 in Detroit, Michigan, because the country's schools were segregated and the African American children received inferior education. Using tenets of Islam, she and the teachers began re-educating the children about their history, and re-socializing them about their responsibilities to themselves and to their community in addition to the traditional necessary skills developed by the public schools. Moreover, it was necessary to change the narrative that some people had circulated about African Americans globally. This was absolutely necessary!

Before 1865, it had been against the law to formally educate African Americans for 400 years, and by 1931, just two generations after that enslaved situation, they still had much to learn about re-identifying and re-socializing themselves. From that initial system of schooling our children, many of our country's leaders were produced, such as Congressman Andre Carson, who is now a member of the United States House of Representatives serving Indianapolis, Indiana; Dr. Fatimah Fanusie, the author and educator; and the Honorable Judge Fatimah El-Amin of Atlanta.

THE QUEENS SCHOOL

The school building in Queens, NY, which burned down, was found by Brother Malcolm X/El Hajj Malik Shabazz in 1959 and purchased by the members of the community.

In 1975, that school and other schools in our community throughout the United States and Bermuda were renamed Clara Muhammad School by Imam W. Deen Mohammed, in honor of his mother after he took over leadership of the community. He had brought more than three and a half million Believers to Prophet Muhammed ibn Abdullah (PBUH) and Al-Islam at that time.

To reiterate, the fire destroyed the building, school furniture, laboratory equipment, children's records, legal and other official records, books, trophies and other educational materials. We have exhausted all of our funds, including from the insurance, and we are depending on your mercy. Please, donate to this cause.

By donating to this effort, you will assist our students from all over the world in maintaining this diverse student body, which, over the years has developed an excellent interfaith dialogue with our students who practice other religions. Your donation contributes to the students' development of tolerance, acceptance, and respect for all of humankind.

To continue developing such good Muslims and good citizens, please help us to continue educating our children. Allah tells us in the Qur'an that: "anyone who has done an atom's weight of good shall see it!" Chapter Zulzal, verse 8.

Please, help us! We thank you in advance.
